We used to eat at the one by the house in S'port all the time- the sandwiches are above average, the salads are good and pretty large, the cakes and krispies are delightful and the price is marginal. There are definitely better restaurants out there, but to me Newk's is an above average option for a reasonably healthy meal. They have several great soup options- Chicken Chili, white bean and kale, fire roasted tomato, loaded potato, etc.

Chicks love those 1,500 calorie salads. The one here on 280 in Bham is packed every day for lunch. I don't even try to go there.

The one downtown by the hospitals is loaded with girls in nurse/doctor garb.

A lot of girls like that you can just grab a salad out of the cooler and pay for it and be done. Pretty decent salads. The other stuff is good, not great.

Jimmy Johns > Newk's

Having had much experience with both, I can tell you that this can't be further from the truth.

Girls really do love that place. I think it's very average but certainly better than Subway. The ordering style, trade dress, and abundance of salads make it very female friendly, as do the free breadstick things and the go-cup.
