I like how as of yesterday morning, no one knew there was going to be any kind of Fallout game. Now we're severely disappointed based on expectations we just created

I'm still excited to see what 76 is. I'm not going to write it off immediately with no context and all rumors.
With that said, I'd probably rather a remaster. F3 was one of the GOATs. Hopefully, we get both.

Originally prototyped as a multiplayer version of Fallout 4 with the goal of envisioning what an online Fallout game might look like, Fallout 76 has evolved quite a bit over the past few years, those sources said. It will have quests and a story, like any other game from Bethesda Game Studios, a developer known for meaty RPGs like Skyrim. It will also feature base-building—just like 2015's Fallout 4—and other survival-based and multiplayer mechanics, according to those sources. One source cautioned that the gameplay is rapidly changing, like it does in many online “service” games, but that’s the core outline.
The game is named after the series’ Vault 76, which has been mentioned in both Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. According to Fallout lore, Vault 76 was meant to open just 20 years after the nuclear war, allowing for a far less civilized setting than previous games. Fallouts 3 and 4, which are full of cities and settlements, both take place over 200 years after the war, after much of the population has had time to reconstruct human civilization. Fallout 76 will feel very different. As the narrator of the trailer says: “When the fighting is stopped, and the fallout has settled, you must rebuild.”

Fallout 76 is in development not just at Bethesda Game Studios’ main office, in Maryland, where the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4 were made, but also at the company’s newest branch, in Austin, according to our sources. That Austin studio, formerly known as BattleCry Studios, had been working on an online hero combat game called BattleCry before that game was canceled. “We have concerns about the BattleCry game and whether it is meeting the objectives we have for it,” Bethesda told press in the fall of 2015. “We are evaluating what improvements the game needs to meet our quality standards. The studio remains busy during this process on multiple projects.” In March, Bethesda announced that BattleCry Studios had become part of Bethesda Game Studios.
pretty hype

FO3 is pretty fricking good

I'm not thrilled at the multiplayer aspect of this. Sounds like a Fallout MMO. If that's what it is, no thanks.

It will have quests and a story, like any other game from Bethesda

But it's not.
Do you consider games like Rust, Ark, and DayZ MMO's?

Yes. What else should they be called?
ETA: Also, those are terrible games to aspire to be.

I genuinely think it'll be in the style of destiny with some multiplayer activities without reliance on multiplayer.
I dont know much about ESO, but I don't think they want to go fully in that direction.

Settle down, seriously, Bethesda doesn’t need you to defend their games on an Internet forum. People are allowed to not be hyped at this reveal, personally I would’ve bought another single player Fallout but I won’t be buying this. Am I in trouble with sicboy now?

Survival games. It's what they are called.

Play what you want, I don't really care. But at least have your information right. It's like the people that still critize the xbone for it's "always online" policy
From what I gather with these games, you will have an option to just play with your friends or on bigger servers with more players.
I love Fallout. I've been so-so with survival games, but have really wanted to try games like Ark and 7 Days. This is an exciting mashup for me.

MMOs by any other name are still MMOs. You run around, surviving, in a world with a bunch of other people in one game environment. It sucks.

I could break down how an MMO widely differs from a survival game, but lets not argue semantics.
I can see the multiplayer aspect of it turning people off. Trolling and griefing can certainly make a game like that not fun, hence I hope there is an option to play in a private server if the general community is unbearable.
As much as I love Fallout, one the things I thought it could really use is a co-op mode. I'll take this as a subsitute.

If you think about it, the setting of fallout sets itself up pretty well for a survival game. I'd take the Destiny style as well, don't get me wrong.
You realize Destiny is essentially an MMO, right?

I think you're responding to two of us in this post
I brought up destiny and said I would be fine with a Fallout like that. Destiny is a hybrid MMO, in my opinion. You don't really need others to play it.

I was. Had to quote you for context.

Same with games like Ark, Minecraft, Rust. It's fun with them if you're into co-op, but it can be done solo.
I think his main gripe with it would be trying to do his thing and some other player comes along and decides to rap and pillage his village.
Really looking forward to getting actual details and gameplay footage.
