It's crazy bc I had so much difficulty when I first played it (i would give up playing after 10 deaths or so), and now I can start a BL4 character and barely even get touched the entire first 3 areas. I could probably do a no-hit run until the forbidden woods if I tried hard enough.
Yeah I noticed how much easier the first area was on my second playthrough. One shot both Cleric Beast and Papa G without putting any points in my attack attributes. Its crazy how much easier the game becomes when I have a fricking clue what I'm doing.
Still having a blast on my second playthrough, though.

I am in the area where there is a a guy with a turret gun at the top of the level shooting down. I still feel weird about the leveling up system. I'm at level 29 but vitality is at 19, strength at 23. The rest are 10, 10, 9 and 8. Is it suppose to be this lopsided? Should I start spreading it out? Note that my guy is carrying a Hunter Axe (+3).

I focused on vitality and endurance first. I didn't touch blood tinge or arcane.

Bloodtinge and arcane imo special builds that you should try late game or second playthrough.
If you are using Axe, keep pumping str and put focus on end so you can swing more hits

Yes, you want to min/max in these games. Check the weapon you are using and see which stat gives the best scaling rating (A down to E, I believe). You want to pump points into that stat a lot for damage boosts. Endurance and vitality are usually always good choices as well.
Always keep in mind though that people do runs where they don’t level up at all so it’s more crucial to upgrade your weapon than stats

Just wanted to give an update (not that there is a care in the world about it) but I beat the game completely! Got the 3 umbilical cords and ate them and defeated the "moon" boss. Great game and really enjoyed it! I still have no idea what the hell went on in that game.

Most of the actual story comes through in the item descriptions.
Great game.
If you want to get an awesome collected version of whats going on check this out (a lot of work went into this):
The Paleblood Hunt

Holy hell. I need to carve out some time and try to read that.
I thought about getting the expansion pack (I guess people now call that DLC) but I think I will just go ahead and skip that. I need to read some walkthroughs and see what I missed. I know I did a lot of side bosses.

You're the fricking shite for sharing that.

Just popping in to say holy shite, the old hunters is amazing. Main game got a little stale for me (can only get my brain sucked on so many times) took a break, and jumped in the hunters nightmare to freshen things up.
Got to the first boss (i think) without dying, which included many many butt puckers, and promptly got 2 shotted.
