Game has potential to be the goat mobile app game but it needs refinement.
Clash of clans is a high benchmark to beat.
Hopefully this game implements trading and pvp outside of gyms somehow

Soooo, got the wife to ride me around. Went with the red team but everyone in my small town has picked red. So, started up another and will go with one of the others. I'm not a big gamer, but this game is making me do some dumb shite to catch Pokemon.

So today's my first day of really getting into this game. I live on Main Street in a small town right next to a University, so there lots of gyms and pokestops all around me. Pretty awesome. I did have to chase a Venomat into the street to get him - I hope no one gets seriously injured playing this game. I also got caught in the rain several blocks from my home which was a pretty cool experience. I can't remember the last time I was just out walking around and got caught in the rain.
A few questions:
1) When you get two of the same pokemon and decide to keep just one, how do you tell which one is better? Just CP?
2) I've read conflicting information about whether it's better to evolve first or power up as much as possible then evolve. People in the evolve first camp are saying it's better to know what moves you get after evolving before deciding whether to dedicate a bunch of resources into powering it up.
3) How do the battles go down? Do you select X amount of your pokemon to battle against the same amount at the gym? How many?

1. I think just cp but their weight can also fluctuate. Some can be XL and XS but not sure if it matters
2. Still researching. Might have to test on pidgeys and ratatas myself. I'm not sure anything actually happens to the cp bar when evolving. So if it's 500/1000 for pidgeys it remains 500/1000 for pidgeot.
3. Dunno.

When you challenge an enemy gym you select six Pokémon a to take with you. When you lose one it is replaced automatically with the next one you selected. You can also swap them out mid battle.

Anyone know if you have to have the app open while you walk to hatch eggs? And has anyone been able to train their starters?

Found a Beedrill in the grocery store parking lot. Is that rare or is it somewhat common to find fully evolved pokemon in the wild?

For gym battles spam tap your opponent then when the blue bar fills hold down on the enemy to unleash the special.
I went blue team. 75% of gyms I've come across are red, 20% yellow, and I've found one blue gym.
Go blue if you're looking for a challenge
I'd think it's fairly rare to find fully evolved Pokemon. Haven't found anything special in my small town.. Just grinding out the commons

Anyone else miss out on some Pokémons because the game froze? I've had three instances where I got the creature in my ball and then it froze. Missed out on some orange fish flopping around on its side. 
ETA: I have a Parasect (looks like a hermit crab), but I don't have an "Evolve" option. Does this Pokémon not evolve? Or is it possible I need to level up more before evolving the critter? I'm only a level 4 at the moment.

Dude that fish is magikarp and is one of the rarest best Pokemon to have in any game. That sucks.
