Very interesting, very interesting. I will say, none of this is going as I anticipated, which is fun.
I was going to throw some random events your way but Port Royal is a fun choice.
Distance between Nassau and Port Royal is 4-7 days in good conditions so roll a D6 + 2 so we know how many supplies you have left.
Also, the ghost monkey of the ship pees on you at least twice.
—-
You can see the fires lighting up the sky in the distance as you pull towards Port Royal. It is nighttime as you enter Kingston Bay and you see deveststion unlike any you have seen before.
Half the town is partially buried into the sand. Fires rage at a fort near the entrance of the bay. You see see several other bonfires.
You notice…. You see people buried in the sand. They seem to be moving. Are they dead, or undead. You also notice the harbor is full of bodies. Zombies. They float dully across the bay, ignoring you.
You can just make out in the part of the city that’s still standing the saddest lot of people you’ve ever seen. They seem to stumble around trying to put their lives back together. Some are trying to rebuild. Some are throwing zombies onto bonfires. Some are despondent, either starring off into the void or smoking Ash.

Wasn't sure if this meant to roll once and add two or to roll twice so I rolled once and got a 6 and then rolled again just in case and got a 2.

Is there a functional port where we can dock?

We talking lining the entire beach, or just a few here and there?

Is it possible to approach these people without disturbing the sand zombies?

Sorry, I got distracted when writing out my t earlier
So you rolled once and then add 2. So you have used 8 days of supplies
You can try but your going to have to get real creative
Hmm, there are docks but there’s so much wreckage and floating debris in the way, your ship can’t get access. But there’s is a lot of activity on the docks
Here and there but stretching the length of the beach so probably hundreds
The beach zombies are in the ruined part of town. The living people you see are in the still standing part of town or starting to rebuild in the old part of town.
It’d be nice to draw a map but bear with me.
As you come into the harbor, the ruined city is to your right. The still standing city and docks that you can’t get to are straight forward. And to your right is jungle and plantations

Dang it. That's what I figured that meant. Hungry jokers. So essentially, we have one day's worth of supplies?

So to get to the still standing city I have to go through the ruined city? Or can I go around and set my anchor closer to the still standing area of the city? I'd prefer to ask the townspeople what happened before plunging headfirst into zombies without knowing anything about what's going on, and maybe come to some sort of arrangement for supplies, but, if we must, I imagine my group of pirates can take care of some zombies mostly buried in sand.

You can take a rowboat from your ship. But remember there are zombies in the water too.
Or you can go through the plantations and jungle where you see no undead

I try not to be a grammar Nazi, but do you mean "no" or "now?" Sentence means two completely different things depending.
Are the plantations close to the finished parts of the City? Or would this take us in the opposite direction? How large is the forest?
I think this is the way we will go but just trying to plan how to get to the villagers.

I mean no lol.
Yes, the jungles and forest lead up to the still standing part of the city. It will take you some time.
Who are you taking with you? What are you bringing with you?

K. Seems like the only real course of action.

Well I would bring Garm, but he seems to be out of it. Probably good for him to tag along regardless. Other than him, I would like to bring a few people who did not support my bid for Captain but stayed anyway, and a few loyalists. All of fighting stock. Let's say 10 men total, in addition to myself and Garm. I would like to leave mostly loyalists on the boat to reduce the chance they run off with the ship while we're gone.
I give them orders to attempt to fish for food and attempt to salvage supplies from floating wreckage of the port while we're gone. Also to keep watchmen at all times to prevent zombies from boarding our vessel.

When you say "it will take you some time," we talking days here? I believe we should leave most of the supplies with the ship, but the party should all be armed with blades and guns to fend off any potential zombie encroachment on us and should have enough supplies to make it till morning when we can hopefully find/hunt some food in the forest.
I also want to bring my flower loot I got off the captain and my nice healing potion.
If the ghost monkey can be convinced to come, maybe we could get him to stay here and haunt this forest instead of us.

Not necessarily. You do have options. They may end disastrously but you do had options. Really want to let you think creatively how to solve some of these solutions

Garm is tied to his hammock below decks. He ain’t going anywhere

Ok, the type of ship your on does not have a huge crew. It typically has crews of 10-40 people to be able to operate. Due to the manner of your leaving, I will say you have a crew of 12. Is that fair? If so, do you still want to bring 10 people.
Also, fishing probably ain’t great considering there are zombies floating in the water. But you can certainly try to salvage from floating wreckage.

BTW, I’ll say you healed back to full HP

If you could convince that monkey to do anything, you’d have convinced it into the cannon and shot it into Davy Jones’s locker a long time ago.
Ok, finalize what you want to do and I’ll push things along

Ok. Just to clarify: the shortest distance to the still standing portion of the city is through sand zombies, and the safest route is the longest and through a forest? And regardless, we'll have to man a row boat to shore?
quote:

That works. Did this entire number vote for me as captain?
The smaller crew number makes me think we need to prioritize getting there quicker. Thinking of leaving 8 on the boat to salvage and taking the 4 best fighters with me.
Do we have any cannons/bombs? Thinking about shooting at the beach zombies first.

The shortest distance to the people in the village is the docks. The docks are damaged and there are ships and wreckage in the way. But you do see regular villages on the docks. But you definitely can’t take a rowboat to get there. You can always try can clear the wreckage but as always, there may be consequences depending on how you handle the problem
You will have to use rowboat for beach or for plantations, but I will say your ship can get so close to the plantations, the rowboat is just a formality so you don’t get wet.

Yes, off the top of my head I can’t say but you have at least a couple of cannons

This settles it for me. I was willing to chance and encounter with mostly buried sand zombies, I'd prefer to avoid water zombies as much as possible. We'll disembark nearest the plantations, and head there before approaching the villages. Give them time to get back set up.
One thing I did not mention we would take with us is lanterns. Let's make sure we have a couple of those (or torches would work I guess) since it's currently dark.
quote:
Yes
In this case, I'll take 5 with me and leave 7 to man the ship (plus Garm if he ever wakes up). Same plan for minimal supplies for my group. I instruct the men on the boat to cover us as we make our way to shore, until they can no longer see us, and then to work on salvaging whatever they can from the wreckage and debris until we return. I tell them to prioritize weapons and providions and to avoid entering the zombie water as much as possibl, to prioritize not becoming zombies over all else, and to ration supplies as much as possible.
quote:
Yes, off the top of my head I can’t say but you have at least a couple of cannons
K. Let's assume we have 3? Before disembark, we assist the men with positioning one of these facing the island and 2 of these facing the sea in case our friends from Nassau come looking for us.
I tell the men we will return, if we can, if we hear cannon fire, and to fire a cannon blast with no ball if they make contact with the villagers or something that needs my attention. Obviously, they will use cannons anyway if under attack. Just trying to develop a communication method if the status on the beach changes drastically.

I will respond more in-depth later, but I will point out, I am going to say you can have 10 cannons. You left two on the docks when leaving quickly. And you have 3 swivel guns
Posted on 2/15/26 at 1:28 pm to athenslife101
quote:
10 cannons
In that case we'll point 4 cannons at shore, 4 toward the sea. I want to position one cannon at the fore of the ship and one at the aft, just in case, since they won't really be able to turn the ship quickly.
quote:
3 swivel guns
1 swivel gun on the fore and 1 on the aft of the ship so they can point at shore or at sea, and the other swivel gun pointing at shore exclusively.
In my mind this leaves 2 2-man teams working 2 cannons each, regardless of which side the threat comes from (one loading, one aiming and firing), and 2 2-man teams working the fore/aft swivel guns and cannons (same work distribution), with those teams supporting the teams in the middle if there is no need for them to man the fore and aft guns. The "firers" will have to call out threats to each other because we don't have spares to specifically be the lookout/"eyes" of the team.
Given that we're leaving 8 on board, this setup will be all the group can effectively utilize in a conflict, and also gives them as much coverage as we can.
ETA: Doing lots of traveling the next two weeks, so my responses may be less frequent for the immediate future but I'll respond when I can.

Ok, you prepare the rowboat to leave and your 4 best fighters climb into the skiff with you.
The first two are the Thatch Brothers, Francois and Francis. Their mother, who was a bit of a whore, had Francois with a French sailor and had Francis with an English sailor and well, she was not a very creative women.
Both Francois and Francis are escaped convicts who were caught as stowaways and have been worked to the brink to pay offf their stowaway crimes. Their only clothing is rags.
Francois, also known as Gunpowder, has a beautiful scimitar worth a fortune but will never part with it no matter how awful his life gets.
Francis, known as fish is a brawler believing all fights should be handled fist to cuffs.
Then there’s Nicholas “Whale” Wright. Whale is all skin and bones and severely suffering from scurvy. He was picked up from the gutter to join the crew. He has with him a formidable crossbow. he also is dressed nice though.
Finally is Frank “bones” silas. A notorious drunk, he is bringing his pet parrot and a rusty knife.
You row towards the mangrove swamp and secure your rowboat to one of the mangrove trees. From there you begin the trek towards the open land.
Slowly the mangrove swamp turns into jungle. You come across a bizarre site. A tissue has opened in the jungle and ancient ruins are jutting out of it. You notice golems surround the structure but they make no movement. Curiosity gets the best of your group and you search the ruins and find an epic relic. Roll a D20
It is nighttime before you exit the jungle and come across a bizarre sight. You see a plantation that seems bathed in green light. You see slaves, living or dead you can’t tell, dragging a black coach. The black coach stops before you and a tall slender man in aristocratic clothes gets out. “You will be joining me,” he tells them and you feel compelled to agree. Everything feels so dreamy.
You get in the coach and you are taken to the main house. You see the lanterns ade all glowing a sickly green color. And you are taken to a dining room where a luxurious feast is laid out before you.
“Please enjoy yourself.”
The men with you sheepishly look to you for how to proceed

I ask the gentleman to describe the feast, as I've never seen something do opulent before.
Regardless of his answer, I also ask the gentleman if there's somewhere my men and I can freshen up after our journey, before we eat.

Whale found a small statue of unlimited terror in those ruins. Looking at it hints at the vast secrets of the universe know one wants to know. Whale barely looked at it and he still had to be sat down and brought back to his senses afterwards. You wrapped the statue up in a rag. You get the feeling if you showed it to someone they might go crazy.

I feel like my guy would have to have at least some ability to read out of necessity because he makes potions, but I would not think he's a strong reader because there would be no need for that. Is there a scale for these things?
Upon returning from the washroom, I try to read what I can from the menu and ask the man for his recommendation.
