It's a discussion form.

I had no idea we weren't allowed to post in threads for systems we didn't own.

If that's the case then shut down all the Xbox One and PS4 threads since no one technically owns one yet.

BTW, consoles directly affect PC gaming so I have an interest no matter how you look at it.

ETA: Weren't you bragging the other day about being a newly minted PC gamer?

Why are you posting in console threads?

I think I'd give the nod to Xbox One in the line-up too, but nothing in either 2013 list looks super compelling to me.

However, I've heard Microsoft has budgeted something like a billion dollars for the Xbox division to throw at studios to court exclusives. It will be interesting to see what comes out of that.

But I have a soft spot for indie games, and Sony seems to be really trying to go after those small studios.

But THEN, there are rumors that Microsoft is going to be more open about indie studios self publishing and such, so that could yield some unique titles in that space on the Xbox One as well.

Whichever way it goes, the consumer wins. I know it's a cliche' but it feels truer now than it has in a long time. Both companies are touting what they have to offer almost daily, trying to one up the other.

I was more impressed with the ps4 lineup honestly but I guess it just depends on what games grab you.

What PS4 exclusive are you most looking forward to, 2013 or 2014? Any particular reason why?

infamous mostly. the order looks interesting. Ryse did grab my attention but I worry that it will be all quick time. I want to know more about Quantum Break too. I know the math there makes it 2 and 2 but Infamous is the only one I know I am interested in for sure. Like I said earlier, I won't buy in year one anyway so I have time to let it play out.

The low iq comment was more directed to the OP because how confirming that a service the PS3 and 360 already have will be on the PS4 is some sort of "win" for playstation shows how little people understand DRM works on the consoles already. It wasn't directed at you or Cs.

It is funny I just got done listening to gaming podcast that basically made the same point I did, but in a lot less harsher terms. They were trying to figure out why this means anything.

No worries. I assumed it wasn't but decided to just ignore it in case it was.

Being able to download digital games on different hardware isn't news at all, I agree. The part I didn't know about (and Stout informed me the PS3 can apparently do this) was the playing games that are mid-download. I just think that sounds kind of cool but I feel like it's a feature that'll be the norm one day soon on every gaming platform.

I apparently need to watch more video of this game. I played the first Infamous and enjoyed it. I watched a little footage of Second Son and thought it looked kind of neat but it keeps coming up in podcasts I listen to and sites I visit as something to be pumped for.

---

Okay, so I watched some gameplay video. I'm still not blown away but it's cool. Looks like more Infamous (which isn't a bad thing) with better graphics, semi-destructible environments, and some really nice facial animation and performance capture.

ETA: Video impressions.

Do people REALLY play on other people's consoles that often, though? And what's the point of playing your games on another console if you don't have your harddrive with the save files of the game you're playing? Seems kinda pointless to me.

Well, if your platform of choice has got your saves in the cloud, not having your hard drive is a non-issue.

I can't speak for Joe-average-consumer but it's not uncommon for me to be over at a friends house and wishing I could show them some random game I've been playing. Admittedly, those games are usually of the indie affair (so, smaller) and the main reason I want to show them is because the developer is doing something original.

For me this, obviously, wouldn't often apply to the latest big budget title.

Infamous didn't blow me away playing it but I did enjoy it. I think it has good potential on next gen.

Which one of the main reasons I loved Xbox One's always online ability because you could basically do the same thing, but I don't you had to download it all. I guess we will never really no though.

I had some reservations about the frequency of the Xbox One's check-in (I thought 24 hours was too strict) but one thing I really liked was these 2 consoles going in really different directions.

It was going to be interesting seeing how each company's approach panned out. Now...everything is just duller. Both systems aren't all that different from my perspective. Oh well.

Exactly my thoughts as well. Xbox seemed to be going after something ambitious and Sony saw the backlash, so they went the other way. Then Xbox saw how hated their ideas were so they shifted towards Sony's model.

I am going to get the Xbox One first then eventually get a PS4 down the road. The new ideas Microsoft had got me really excited and now its just meh. Now I am basing my decision on games and what my friends will be playing.

I think we will eventually start seeing both companies layering in these changes gradually to help gamers get over their ridiculous fear of change.

You are definitely right about that. The way MS was going is the inevitable future.

I also think that we're going to see basically these same DRM measures applied at a game level. In other words, you're going to have more and more titles that just say straight-up on the box "Persistent Internet Connection Required."

This is especially evident given the number of titles coming out that are mixing both multiplayer and single player into a seamless experience. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if that design philosophy is the hallmark of this approaching generation, for both monetary reasons and simply because it's an interesting place to take the medium.

I basically just said this in another thread and was told I was making a massive assumption.....

What are the 4 of the most sought after next gen titles at this point: Destiny: Most likely will require online
The Division: Will require online
Titanfall: Will require online
BF4: People want this because of online multiplayer

I think many PS only people will start to realize why a lot of us who have been on Xbox for so long don't mind getting online once they are able to experience group talk with friends while not playing the same game. The first thing I do when I get on my Xbox is connect to Xbox live and join a party with my friends. I cannot think of the last time I didn't have an internet connection while still having power.
