I don't anticipate PS4 coming out anytime soon. When will PS4 be coming out?

I wouldn't be expecting a new Microsoft or Sony Console for quite some time... a lot of people still haven't even upgraded to HD TVs

Considering Sony is still accepting fan concept designs, it's a pretty sure bet you won't be seeing it this year

2010 - no way. I'd be shocked if either one released a new console this year.

Heck, MS hasn't even released Natal yet, and Sony is supposed to release the Wand for PS3.

Companies don't release consoles just to do it. It costs a tremendous amount of money to completely switch over to a new foundational product and they will only do so if the technology has increased so significantly that people are demanding it.

We saw amazing leaps forward in technological capabilities in the 1990s and early in this decade, but it has tapered off since the release of the 360. We've gotten to the point where room for graphical improvements seems pretty cramped and you can put pretty much whatever the frick you want on a disk with Blu-Ray technology... both systems will be around for a while, especially with the way things can be altered or fixed via internet on the existing console instead of the companies having to release a whole new product.

In fact, the last I heard (before this thread) is that the 360 and PS3 should be the companies' main consoles until 2014 or 2015.

I can't imagine with Natal and Wand coming out that MS and Sony will release a new console shortly after. It's like they wouldn't even give these add-ons a chance. Natal/Wand will give more longevity to the 360/PS3. Besides, with a new console will come more expensive games and I don't think consumers are ready for this.

46% of U.S. homes have HDTV. That means over 50% have Standard definition TV. That alone speaks volumes.

Typically, from what history has taught, a console's longevity is around 5 years. This gen, 7th, we're seeing something that's bucking the trend. The graphics and sound are so good that it might last 10 years (maybe more). I've owned the 360 since 2007 and I'm not near tired of it yet. I just bought the PS3 when the price was reduced. In fact, I just bought ME2 and loved it. I completed other games that are great, and I have a slew of games on my "list" for purchase... Bioshock 2, MW2, Fallout Vegas, Killzone 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Uncharted 2, etc. This year will be a big year for 7th gen gaming with many great releases.

get a ps3 now...they won't release anything for a while. They are in the prime of the system's life cycle, so they won't be releasing it anytime soon.

I have both 360 and PS3. Actually, I have 2 360s. The first 360 I bought is the Halo 3 special Edition - it RROD on me. MS fixed it, and now it's in storage with the original packing. One day, I might sell it as a collector's item... I'm sure some Halo fan(s) would die to get it. It now runs more quiet, so evidently they used better parts to fix it. I also bought a 360 Elite about 2 months ago.

One thing to keep in mind about the 360 you buy now, they should all contain the "Jasper Chipset" (both Arcade and Elite). From what I know, the graphics chip (or parts connected to) is what's causing the problem on most 360s that fail.

The new 360, I should say from my own experience, is more quiet and much, much cooler. Supposedly the RROD problem is fixed with this newer chipset, but we'll see.

But with all this said, the PS3 is a great console, you can't go wrong. PS3 has great exclusives. You get Blu-Ray, and if you're a Netflix member you can get a disc from Netflix that will allow you to stream Netflix onto your TV via PS3. I do it all the time. PSN is free, and the interface is very nice.

I would totally get a PS3 if you are used to playing PS2. I have a 360 and still cannot get used to the controls. I'd eventually like to get one myself.
