There is really almost no point to having an xbox unless you have XBL.

XBL is a blast. the entire gaming experience is so much better with live. Party invites are great.
By the way. If you like you can get free 1-month XBOX live gold memberships to try it out.
All you need is a yahoo.com or windows live id account I believe. You can sign up for a @live.com from windows live and it's pretty quick. HERE
On your XBOX Sign up for a new Live membership on your hard drive.. then use one of those e-mails.. Follow the instructions.. You will eventually be asked what kind of account you want.. like 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year.. just click the other option. I believe it says no thanks or xbox silver.. once you click that it will say you are elible for a 1 month free gold account.
You'll be able to create your gamertag and just click on add payment options "later"..

depends. xbox live is great, but only play it if your friends play it
