Technically Cam signed a false scorecard and would have been DQ'd under the old rules. He actually caught a break with that change.

That's a rule the PGA was so proud of they changed. They have so much crapola in the rules books apparently the official can't get it right in a timely fashion. The old one where a player grounded his club and the wind blew the ball even slightly and it was a stroke penalty always got a rise from players and fans alike. Like a golfer is actually responsible for the wind.

Funny thing is I read all this fan outrage about the penalty yet Cam took it in stride and accepted the ruling because he knows it's a rule and he screwed up.

Now let's hear the officials own up to their mistakes. They blew it too. The feeble excuse for not getting that ruling in on time deserved its own 2 stroke penalty.

Why do the officials expect something out of players they can't deliver? Like an apology for being bad at their job.

The players need to be more proactive and change rules that are outdated or don't make much sense.

I agree, this is one area the PGA could be better at. Seems like whenever there is an official called in, it takes forever.

The players don't have a union, they have Alfalfa. Big difference. If the players start getting a say in purses, tournament events, and rule changes that make little sense, it's only recently and ONLY because of pressure from LIV to change the business model. The anger and contempt some of these players have shown over the years for stupid rules that cost them in the biggest of events and gave no competitive advantage at the time suggested they didn't have much of a say historically.

If an official didn't know that Smith's ball was sitting on the red line, at first glance, he was blind. No reasonable excuse. So now many are looking for "motivation" for the action somewhere else beyond stupidity. As they should.
