They aren't for the first event because their application hasn't been processed yet, but they plan to

Even if they get OWGR recognition, the strength of field portion isn't going to give them many points when the average ranking of the field is 200+

54 hole events can’t count toward world ranking points.

ETA: also interesting that Phil says he intends to play the majors. I have always thought these guys can play in the events that they are qualified. I guess the pga tour will try to change the language stating people must be members of the tour to play in events - which would suck - imho. Interesting to see what happens.

None of the majors are sanctioned by the PGA Tour

I know. I always assumed they would play the majors. I was referring to the tour events. Still don’t see how it can hold up in court to not allow these guys to play in events that they are qualified for

And wait until a sponsor wants to give an exemption to one of these guys

Ah I see I misread.

That’s the next shoe to drop I guess when a LIV tries to enter The Travelers

Sports Illustrated interview with Phil

quote:

SI/MR: Given the amount of money being offered and certainly what we know the purses are to be, there is a suggestion that you are doing this due to financial difficulties. Can you address that?

Mickelson: “My gambling got to a point of being reckless and embarrassing. I had to address it. And I’ve been addressing it for a number of years. And for hundreds of hours of therapy. I feel good where I’m at there. My family and I are and have been financially secure for some time. “Gambling has been part of my life ever since I can remember. But about a decade ago is when I would say it became reckless. It’s embarrassing. I don’t like that people know. The fact is I’ve been dealing with it for some time. Amy has been very supportive of it and with me and the process. We’re at place after many years where I feel comfortable with where that is. It isn’t a threat to me or my financial security. It was just a number of poor decisions.’’

That sounds like an alcoholic justifying having a couple of drinks at a party.

Saw a quote today saying 9 figures. Obviously if figjam and DJ got $100mil Tiger probably got offered $500

When you can turn down $500 million, you officially have “frick you money”
