A platform and tv deals that allow the players to get sponsorships that pay 100s of millions for wearing a logo
You can thank Tiger for that, not the PGA.

He could easily setup all the tournaments, events, contracts etc etc. Pga does nothing right?

Phil is on record as saying the PGA tour is “greedy”. Ok, they’re not turning a profit supposedly. So what makes them
greedy? They’re not shorting Phil to add to the bottom line. So what’s his deal?
My guess, and I've not researched it all, so I could be way off...but my guess is that the PGA rakes in money, which Phil likely believes should be distributed more to the players, and not kept in the PGA's pockets.

The PGA has a retirement plan for players, right? Seems like a good deal to me. Does any other sport offer the same?
No clue if other leagues do, but most companies offer retirement plans, so I don't see this as anything special.
quote:
like day cares for the players with families so the wives and kids can travel with the players, courtesy cars, meals, tickets to otherSporting events etc
Again, these are all things the PGA should be providing...and I believe the cars are done in conjunction with local dealers, not the PGA.
In the end, all the players are contractors that have to pay their way to all the tournaments they want to play in, pay for their travel, hotel, food, etc. They have to pay for their coaches, trainers, caddie, etc. And, since you have tried to connect back to other leagues - those are all things paid for by the team you play on.
Look, nobody is playing a violin for Phil, but if he's holding a torch for the guys that don't have it as well, then I can't imagine a better spokesman for your cause.

You and you hyperbole...
I never said they did "nothing". I'm saying that they could do more. If you don't see that, then you're simply being obtuse.

Phil’s Saudi league what what he is working for is great for big name players and superstars, but crushes the little man and makes it that much harder to get to the money

I never mentioned the Saudi league, but:

You said Phil is holding the torch for those that don’t have it as well. I think that’s utter horseshite and the exact opposite of what he is doing

Honestly if you have to ask this question, this thread is not for you. The pgatour is one of the best run organizations in sports. The only complaints you hear about are 1-2 rules.
These guys are not signed by a team. They are independent contractors and get rewarded for playing 3+ years on tour by creating retirement packages and other incentives. The problem has been no mini tour can succeeed because sponsors do not see a return. The pgatour needs to revamp the mini tours not the actual pgatour.

Like what? More money? 4 rounds of golf and walking away with 1mil after all fees and payouts is pretty dang good. Almost if not all tour event gives all players a free rental car for the week. They are treated like royalty every stop they go.

You may want to research this. I’ve read the players get free meals and travel to the matches. Does the NBA or NFL offer retirement plans? And do contractors in other industries get retirement plans? I don’t know so I’m asking.
I just don’t see Phil’s tactics- calling the PGA greedy and getting in bed
With the Saudis- as a good
Move. Time will tell.
ETA: just read that travel to and from the events is paid for by the players. Only the very top
Players get a free ride

PGA Tour Tax Filings
Executive compensation seems a little high, but probably in line with other major sports executives. They could probably pay out a little more each tournament and still be fine, but it seems like they aren't hogging all the income. Couldn't find the 2020 statements yet to see how bad Covid hit their net income and retained earnings.

Oooof...this thread might not be for you.
Have you even looked at the payouts? LINK
One guy made over $1MM.
T-33 and below made less than $50k.
Some of you are not understanding...
Again, in the grand scheme of things, yes...they are treated very well compared to you and me. Obviously, there is something they are failing to do, or else ZERO guys would be interested in joining the Saudi league.

You throw 100s of millions at people, no matter the organization or business, and you will have people leave
And that’s fine, just be honest on why you are leaving

They are obviously not giving the players 8-9 figure guaranteed contracts. There is absolutely no other reason why the players that are jumping off are leaving.

exactly, its sportswashing at its finest. PGA tour is limited to the amount they can do for the players because they only bring in so much money through sponsorships and TV deals. The new league has the backing of the Saudi government fund that is trying to create an image of a great country to hide all the human rights shite they have going on, and they have plenty of money to throw at it. Just like the F1 races in the middle east, world cup in Qatar, Olympics in Beijing, etc.

Not even DJ? It would suck to lose DJ.. and honestly I love the drama that nut case Bryson brings to the game.
Everyone else won’t be missed.

They want the money
They’re trying to blame the PGA cause
They know they’re gonna be judged harshly for
Leaving. Especially for joining the Saudis. Quit blaming the PGA and just own it.
