So, you can just fill in the grooves on a club????

Rules official said yes. The only reason hideki was DQ’d was because it spilled over to the face of the club. He specifically said it would be ok in the grooves.

Thanks! I didn’t know that

Makes sense once I think about it .. my grooves are always filled with dirt since I don’t wash my clubs

Rumor is that Dustin Johnson was seen sniffing the white substance on the club which is what alerted officials to a possible issue.

Wasn’t a rules official. It was someone involved in the golf world. No name given.

I get the Reed hate but honestly do not believe he turned in Matsuyama. In fact him and Matsu look to be way more cordial to each other versus Rory and Matsu. That would be out of place if Reed just Narc’ed on him.

What did he do find a random official at some hole in the front nine and tell him?

In a press conference with reporters midway through the round, Steve Rintoul, a PGA Tour senior tournament director, said that a member of his committee had been sent pictures of the club and was asked whether they had seen it. The pictures, Rintoul said, were from a website — Golfwrx.com posted pictures of the club earlier this week — but Rintoul would not reveal who alerted the committee member when twice asked.

Fun fact. I caddied for him back in the day at the Nike tour event. Cool dude.

To me this is an obvious rules violation. Hard for me to believe that this was only for "alignment". I feel there should be a suspension for future event along with the DQ for The Memorial. Nothing drastic just maybe his next scheduled start.

There is plenty of proof. They inspected the club before disqualifying him.
