The idea with no cement is the implant is porous and the patient’s bone growth during healing provides the natural bond.

Hey. Back from the 2-week Post Op. It was "press-fit".

Other notes:

1. Ahead of schedule with range of motion, strength and flexibility.

2. Cleared to drive if I wanted to.
3. No real restrictions on exercise (said I could go mow this week if I wanted to, which I don't yet ), but just "don't do anything stupid" at this juncture.

4. Target 3 months or so post op on average for more strenuous activities (i.e. like pickleball).

Nice! Sounds like you are well on your way.

You had doubts/concerns early on, rightfully so. Are you glad you did it?

Don’t know yet, but thanks for asking! The litmus test will be eventually how much of the old routines can I end up doing again or at what level.

Week 4 Update

No pain to speak of. Little tightness in quads, but not really that much.

Actually, mowed the yard a couple of days ago. Able to sit and get up from chairs with no pain.

Finished 2 weeks of PT. Continue to walk and do the exercises prescribed, mainly improving flexibility (hamstrings, clam shells) and strength (bridges, wall squats, stair stepping for glutes and quads primarily).

Thanks for the updates.

Getting back in shape to hopefully breeze through this without any issues.

UPDATE

(About 3 months (or 12–14 weeks) post-surgery from March 11, 2025)

Quick update as some of you may be facing something similar in the months or years to come.

Just finished a trip to Washington State. Was able to hike most trails (nothing technical) fairly easily with some discomfort. Able to walk fairly comfortably, do things like mow the yard. Have started back with some lightweight training and (don't laugh) some adult strengthening/chair yoga 3 times/week at the Y to develop better core strength and balance (actually can be a good work out with heavier dumbbells and resistance bands they use).

I would say I've experienced significant pain reduction by 12 weeks, but there is still mild to moderate discomfort occasionally after exercising. Occasional stiffness, especially in the morning or after sitting for long periods. Pain that improves with rest, ice, or medication.

No way I'd attempt to getting back to strenuous activities like Krav Maga yet. You can still definitively feel pain with certain movements like attempting a side kick for example. My target for that was September after a big cruise we have coming up in Norway. Might be never at my age. We'll see.
