Pecan tree branch removal question

So we have pecan that had a branch (about 3" diameter) split from a limb (about 6"). I'm thinking of taking the entire limb off and was wondering if there was any recommendations OR if there was even a need to apply anything to the trunk where the limb will be cut from? I'm sure it will heal over naturally but would applying anything help prevent rot?

No need to apply anything.
Use the three cut technique to avoid stripping off bark as the limb falls, be sure to make the last cut on the branch side at the collar

That's exactly right. Do not cut flush to the tree and remove the weight of the limb away from the final cut.
