I just don't understand why Randle made such a big deal out of that. If he's so good, then a little competition shouldn't have been a problem.

What we don't know is what Rueben thought. It was his dad's comments that have been reported. That doesn't mean it is what RR thought. Don't jump to conclusions about his opinions.
