First of all, us breaking in a new QB next year is a huge deal. Yet you guys are breaking in a true sophmore with all of what? 2 starts?
that's more experience than two of Alabama's QB's, combined. McElroy has 20 pass attempts in his career. Jackson with 0. Jefferson showed MUCH improvement between the Arkansas game and the bowl game. if you watched the bowl game and don't think Jefferson doesn't have MUCH MUCH potential, then you're obviously a homer and probably shouldn't be in this conversation. Maybe you should watch another sport.

under his belt and you act like he's some SEC veteran.
quote:
We'll either be breaking in McElroy who is a 4th year junior, or Star who is a RS freshman and the same age as JJ. The QB situation at LSU and Bama isn't much different in 2009.
We have something to base our opinion off of, as you guys don't. McElroy has played in mop up duty, and Jackson has never taken a college snap. It's hilarious to me that you guys pump up McElroy because "he'll be JUST as efficient as JPW!!" Yet, you guys blind homerism fail to realize that JPW succeeded because of an incredible OL. JPW sucked. Period. It showed in the LSU game. It showed in the Utah game. He's always sucked. With a different OL, I hope to god that McElroy is "just like JPW" because he'll probably get raped.
quote:
You guys take one game against an overrated team from an awful conference and think JJ will be awesome.
Who said anything about him winning the Heisman?
quote:
He looked horrible in his other outings,
yet, you fail to mention the improvement in the bowl game?
quote:
and he'll have his growing pains this year as any new, young QB will.
quote:
I promise you he won't have as much success against Saban or UF's D
Again, I'm failing to see where anyone said that. No one is even insinuating that. We do believe that he is capable of being effecient behind a line that will have experience and a stable of backs that will probably one the best in the country.
quote:
as he did against GT's defense full of 2-star players.
Ranked 25th in the country. It's obvious Rivals dictates the statistical output of these players as a team.
quote:
As far as our WR situation, it is being blown out of proportion by even Bama fans. We have a ton of skilled, highly rated guys on campus like McCoy, Alexander, Maze, Gibson and Hanks.
Yet, you guys are hoping an undersized, 160 lb WR can come in and start. Yeah.
quote:
The problem wasn't so much that we didn't have other WR's so much as we had a QB who locked in on one WR and had no field vision.
At least you know he sucked.
quote:
Bell may play some here and there, but he's not going to come in and beat out McCoy, Maze and Hanks IMO.
I agree. I don't think he'll see the field until his Jr. year.
quote:
If he does, that means he a darn good player and that bodes well for us.
he won't. He can thank Chris Tolliver for the stats he had his Jr. year. Look at his sr year stats and what he accomplished when pressure was put on him instead of Tolliver.
quote:
As far as our OL, yeah we have to replace 3 starters...isn't LSU replacing two starters on the OL?
Tulane and Utah were the games Andre Smith, JUST Andre Smith, missed last year and the results were hilarious. LSU will have a much easier time replaceing 2 O-Lineman than what Alabama has to replace.
quote:
Good thing we've had top 5 OL classes the past 3 years or so. I think we'll be ok there.
I love it the way you guys think that true freshmen can just come in and make an instant impact. how's that Tyler Love working out so far?

i watched at least 5 of jackson's high school games, each game i walked away saying he was a good high school qb, nothing more, unless hes had drastic improvements i would be surprised if he starts and has any success

Prom, JPW did not suck. He obviously wasn't great, but you know goddamn well you would have taken him on LSU last year. You give him to LSU last year, and you guys prolly win 10 games in the reg. season. And the guy said top 5 OL classes the last 3 years, he never said anything about a true freshman starting. Are you insinuating Tyler Love was supposed to start last year?

i'm going to bet you eric eskew's walkie talkie that bj scott is a bust.

with that defense?
the defense was the #1 problem. the QB, #2. With JPW, LSU wins the Alabama game. that's it.

If I can play Devil's Advocate (Saban being the Devil), people knocking on McElroy need to step back and remember Matt Flynn.
I really don't know anything about the guy other than what I've read on here, but a 4th yr. rs qb is not nothing.
Yes MF did have more experience but nobody expected him to come in and do what he did. The main difference as I see it is that MF had a better suporting cast around him than McElroy (if he does indeed start) will have at Bama.
As far as the original subject of this thread, Fortenberry should have asked KBell how he could believe anything that comes out of Saban's mouth. I wouldn't believe the guy if he told me the sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky.

well, seeing as how the coaching staff can't even decide on what position he is best suited to play, you might be right, Egg.
Off topic, but did you look up your old Rec Center professional staff's salaries yesterday? Those cats get the shaft

quote:that's a big part of my reasoning...i'm probably wrong though, but whatever. i could see him possibly being a good slot guy next to julio, but his best position may be on the defensive side of the ball, which is already being stocked and loaded with better talent than even he is.

McElroy is a big ?. I know lots of Bama fans are positive, and I hope he can bring a little more than Wilson brought to the table, but its highly doubtful. I think he's going to be about the same as JPW, but with a lesser supporting cast (as Prom so eloquently pointed out). The difference between McElroy and Flynn is that Flynn pushed Russell in practice and competed for the starting job in 2006. McElroy never really pushed JPW for the starting job, thus there is lots of anxiety. I think he'll be fine, mostly b/c I think our D will be even better than it was last year. Our offensive scheme will be similar to last year, we won't take alot of chances. Hopefully that will lessen the burden on McElroy. Like I said earlier, I think the top 5 hype is unjustified. I think we stand a good chance of winning the West, though.

McElroy could be very good, but at this point he's a complete and total uncertainty. That's all we have to go on. We can make expectations that range from terrible to incredible but we don't know. A top five preseason team with that kind of uncertainty shouldn't be a top five team.

I would ask him why would he go from rayville to tuscaloosa, that is going backwards in evolution. That my friend is saying alot.

Occassionally it'd be good if you contributed something to the conversation. Simply hating on 'Bama gets old.

You are on an LSU board what do you expect.

This reminds me of seeing bama fans looking shocked and bewildered to see LSU flags and fans during their annual visit to shreveport for the independence bowl. It may not have been baton rouge but it is still Louisiana and Bama sucks. We look forward to seeing you guys again this year.

meh, i guess. I live in BR, so seeing LSU doesnt really bother me. And I think the 'annual' visit to Shreveport joke is kinda old after this past season's results dontcha think
But seriously, if you go over to the Rant, I think you'll find more people hating on 'Bama and making Independence Bowl jokes.
