I think we have to get one of Telfort, Jones, or Bostic. I feel good about Jones

I want Bostic among that trio, but Jones is more likely - although I'm not sure we pull any of the three. Telfort is too small for OLB IMO... he's way smaller than Baker.

If we get Randle and Debose to go along with Benton coming in, I would think that we just hit the powerball for recruiting.

Randle and Debose, yes

I'm still disappointed about Benton... I always thought he was just ok and I thought Dez Bryant was better, and it has come back to bite us

I always thought Miles took Benton to keep the Bastrop pipeline going, but I never thought he was a can't-miss prospect

I completely disagree on Benton. I think he was the most complete receiver to come out that year in regard to his ability to block and his ability to be a threat in the short, intermediate, and deep passing game. I was always very impressed with Benton.

Dez Bryant was well regarded, by most fans in Texas, to be the heralded receiver over Tolliver. But there was obviously a reason every school passed on him and let him slide to Ok St. It's unfortunate but they must have really believed his grades would be too much to overcome.

And Telfort can play safety or OLB. I think that versatility is a good thing, especially with the spread attack. And I think we get atleast one of the three, two at the most.

We should go after Stewart though as well.

I didn't like Benton's skills with the ball in his hands, personally

That's cool. We disagree though. I thought he had a lot of upside if he could actually make it to campus and motivate himself, which isn't going to necessarily happen if he comes here. But the Hargrave coach had great things to say about his ability when he was there as well.

yeah, I liked that he showed well at Hargrave

the things to like about him are that he is a pretty rangy WR and still has pretty good speed, and has played at a pretty high level of competition in high school

but I thought that in his highlights he went down fairly easily and didn't have the best skill set at evading tacklers in the open field

just my opinion... I used to play in that league and I know it pretty well, so when I heard of his hype and saw his videos for the first time I expected to see better domination than I saw, that's all

I disagree with your statement about Baker and Telfort. You said he was way smaller than baker. According to Rivals, he is 1 inch and 10 lbs smaller. I wouldn't say that this is "way smaller". I would say this is slightly smaller. Also, Telfort is being looked at a a Safety/LB tweener in which he could fit in good against spread offenses. I think he could be the quick/fast LB that our defense needs.

If Telfort really runs a 4.41 he's versatile enough to play at safety, linebacker or (at lest in our scheme, it seems) the nickel or dime to help out in run support.

I'll be honest, I have no real knowledge of his game so I'm not going to try to talk out of my neck here, but he looks like a solid player with a lot of versatility.

Telfort looks very quick the ball in his video's. I came away impressed with his speed more than anything and that gave me reason to believe he could really play olb or s.

Baker barely makes the cut physically as an OLB... I am just not sure Telfort would ..he has a physical gmae like Baker so that helps

I agree he could play any where against the spread and be ok, but to fill a hole against Bama with Coffee coming through that congested area is the reason backers have to have some physical prescence to them

Baker is undersized but I'm hardpressed to find another guy that is as physical as he has been on special teams. Have to think that translates when he is given a more prominant role at linebacker next year. Size is important, sure, but some guys just have the tenacity and ball awareness to make plays. Telfort seems like that same sort of player in his video's.

I've got a feeling they're looking at him more as a safety than as a linebacker.

5'11 is small for a linebacker, but it isn't unheard of. Sam Olajabutu was pretty dynamic for Arkansas as around the same size (might have been smaller, can't remember) and Sam Mills was a hell of a player in the NFL in that range as well.

I think he's more suited for safety just looking at his body type though. Especially if his timed speed is legit. I know thats where USC was looking at him.

I agree with that, but if you look at our schedule, we only play two true hard nose running teams, msu and Alabama. Almost every other team has gone to some version of the spread. A new defensive philosophy is going to be needed against this type of offense in which the lbs are very quick and fast. I think we are seeing this transition right now. Look at Georgia's little lb and many other teams. I think it will be a fad and necessity that will increase in the future. There is not near the need for a huge physical specimen with slower feet in today's forms of offense. Just my opinion

I agree with this post totally. The best way to negate speed is with speed. LSU's linebackers need to be quick and speedy to keep up with the new breed of offense out there. In those regards, Telfort is perfect and so is Baker. But, you gotta have a big mlb to slow down the few teams that still use the power game. One such team is LSU, btw.

With a more experienced quarterback, LSU can be so dynamic on offense because of our ability to implore both the power game as well as the spread. It has given teams fits when we have a guy that is more consistent at quarterback.

I don't even want Kenny Bell.

He's not an eye popping recruit, if he went to Bama I think I would lose all of .5 second of sleep. It would actually help open up another spot for someone very talented we'll probably have to turn away as it stands now.

..for the long term however, it's good if LSU signs in-state talent

and this is partially why Saban is after him, if he wants to start stealing top recruits from LSU he has to start somewhere, get his foot in the door
