you can't just go from a power team to a finesse spread team in a year. not even 2.
With Crowton even we haven't gone close to a full spread and you know how bad he hopes we would.

So if the offense is strugging badly this year several games into the season what is stopping Malzahn from being canned?

he's still using that 1/3 of the jimbo book he said he would before 2007. shite that's all we ran at the end of last year

His point was you don't have the talent on offense.
We had the talent on defense. I think something like 5 players from last year's defense are on an NFL roster currently.

How much of a leash is Malzahn on? do you really know? How long can the fans wait for the offense to start performing? 1 year? 2 years? 4 years?

I tihnk we'll see more and more spread in 2010 with Jefferson/Shepard at QB and Murphy getting more reps at RB.

Posted on 6/21/09 at 9:38 pm to thunderbird1100
that's the question
it may take 3 years for them to get a QB who can run a deep passing attack adequately

To be fair. If Aub. can recruit well and bring in the talent, the coaches will have a shot at being successful in the SEC.
As of right now the talent isnt there. Bottom line. On top of the lack of talent to compete in the SEC, the head coach (Chizik) isnt very good. It will be awhile before Aub. gets back on top. And it wont be this year, which is the argument.
To add to that...winning is the best recruiting tool and if Aub. cant sustain a winning reputation, recruiting wont be there. Its a bad problem to have for Aub.

Again, I'll repeat this for the millionth time. LSU had talent on defense, Auburn hasn't had talent on offense. Just ask the NFL, as seen in the draft.
And again, Borges and Franklin are proven as OCs, Malveto hadn't proven shite.

thats y i believe we'll be back because of this staff's recruting power.....that is the name of the game!
Sure is. It takes a few years though. Just like it took Saban at LSU 4 years or so to build a powerhouse.

Never with Miles as coach. We'll always have that power running game taking snaps from under center. Which I like. It really helps to grind out games and get short yardage when you need to.

We saw the beginning of it in the first half against GTech. Jefferson throwing to Dickson for the TD. The 80 yarder to Lafell called back by penalty. Etc. Saw it in the spring game as well.

We'll have both. Just like a team like the Patriots has both in the NFL. Unless you have Tebow under center, you need both.

let me qualify
i mean spread for stretches. we saw it in 2007. lots of 4-5 WR passing, esp early
we butt fricked VT by spreading them out with superior athletes

Agreed. Our 2007 offensive style was nasty.. it was well balanced and we could do it all. Grind it out.. air it out.. spread em out.
We've got the horses.. just have to let em loose. I'd like to see more screens this coming season.. and that misdirection pitch.

we need a better QB to see it really take off
