Brian Poole DB
Sorry for the delay...sick son. I'm just picking up guys I really liked at all star games. My top 5 were Shaq, Mario Edwards, Yeldon, Poole and Cooper, so for me getting 3 out of 5 is as good as I could have hoped to start

Since I know you all pant in anticipation for my writeups, I thought I'd offer them up. I had a lot of debate about these picks, but after Bayou totally stole my pick (I'm never texting him who I like again!), it cleared it up, quite a bit.
2) Devin Fuller, QB
To be honest I almost wanted someone TO TAKE Fuller before it got to me, not because I'm not sold on his ability, I just have some question marks and I found another QB who I think is severely underrated by most of the services (all but one, actually). But I felt if Fuller was there, I couldn't pass up the potential.
I plan on employing a spread-option offense. Fuller runs some variations of this in HS, but he also takes snaps under center and does some more traditional things, like PA and rollouts. I imagine he will be doing the same at UCLA (they have promised him a shot at QB). Fuller himself said he's "like Michael Vick." I don't see it. Well mostly because, there is only one Michael Vick. There has yet to be another guy who can make a legitimate claim to strongest arm and fastest legs in the league.
As for arm strength, Fuller is adequate. He puts some nice zip on his intermediate stuff and has enough strength to get the ball deep. He also shows a good deal of touch, which I like to see... he isn't just flame throwing every thing he can.
As a runner, he's simply dynamic. ESPN lists him at 4.77, but if Fuller runs a 4.77 then every kid in New Jersey is slow as shite. He routinely blows by people who have angles. More than just pure, blazing speed, he's got moves on top of moves. Watching him run, he reminds me of former Pitt Panther and current Philly Eagles Lesean McCoy. McCoy isn't a true blazer, but his wiggle and short area explosion are matched by few. Fuller probably has a touch more speed than Shady, with that extra wiggle.
Overall, I think Fuller can be a successful college QB and run the spread option. I like his upside, AND he seems like a great kid. My main concerns are that a) He's moving from East Coast to West Coast (though he has family in the area) and b) If they lie to him about a legit shot at QB (a la Russell Shepard). Ultimately, he has a lot more QB ability than Shep ever had, and I think Mora has sold him on the whole "I coached Michael Vick" thing.
2) Ifeadi Odenigbo, DE
I plan on utilizing a wide 9 defensive front with my DEs. I want them playing wide, using their angles and pinning their ears back to maximize pressure on the QB (think Eagles/Lions from this year, Titans in the past). Odenigbo is a perfect fit.
I LOVE this kid. I don't care that he's going to Northwestern (actually makes me love him MORE). It's not very often that elite prospects have strong academic offers AND pursue them. Odenigbo is, at Northwestern. He picked them over Ohio State, Oklahoma, USC, etc. He had legit national offers. He's going to study Computer Science. He's quoted as saying that the recruiting pitches of, "I can get you to the NFL" meant nothing to him. He believes he can make it there regardless. I love that confidence. This is a pretty sweet video about him.
But unlike most really brilliant student athletes, Odenigbo is an upper-tier athlete with upside bursting from the seams. He reminds me a bit of Barkevious Mingo. At this point he's tall and lean, and still learning how to play the game... but he has a speed that cannot be taught. Odenigbo runs in the 4.4 range. There is some debate that he may move to LB due to his frame (not unlike what we heard about Mingo before he got to LSU), but I think he will add the bulk to be an absolute menace off the edge. Other than raw speed, I love his ability to operate in space. His lateral quickness and movement is off the charts as well. What's even more impressive, perhaps, is that Odenigbo has a lot of raw, brute strength, even at this size. He can bull rush. He doesn't get pushed around in the run game. He uses his hands and plays with leverage.
In short, I'm in love with this kid and I'll be surprised if he's not an impact player. I think he could see immediate playing time at Northwestern, because he'll likely be one of, if not THE, best athletes they have. He'll need to add additional bulk to become and every down DE, but I look forward to watching him develop.
eta: I sorta regret taking Fuller, but I may opt to take my other QB later and employ Fuller as a WR.

I wouldn't. You know how we talked earlier about not grabbing skill position guys early in the draft? Well, he was very high on my list. This kid is something special. He was very much in the consideration for being my next pick. I too have some late round qbs who I believe are a bit undervalued, but Fuller deserves to be selected this high.

Reading what you said about him is exactly what I was saying, and the exact reason why he was going to be me next pick. Great pickup.

Leonard Williams, DE, Southern California
Williams is an excellent athlete as a big man. He plays inside and outside for Mainland's defensive line depending on the scheme. He is better than most players at his level of disengaging and dispatching blockers and he plays with excellent natural strength and leverage. Where he ends up on the line in college depends on how he continues to grow and the scheme he picks. He could grow into a tackle or be a big end in a 3-4 - Scott Kennedy.
I like Williams -- more so than Casher, and I believe that he'll grow into defensive tackle.

That makes me feel better. I'm curious what QBs you are eying. There's one I really like specifically, but Fuller is just a better athlete than him.

Two jembeurt-approved picks. I'm not sure I've ever had that.

Doing some film watching/reading on guys this morning, just a passing observation but to me there are A LOT of impact WRs in this class. A lot of really, really good guys playing WR.. all of them about the same size too (6'1, 180-190 pounds).
But outside, say, the top 5-7 RBs, it's kinda weak (at least, I haven't found guys I love yet). All the guys taken thus far look like they can play, but that next tier of players I'm not enamored with.
Anybody else have thoughts on this?

I've always been a sucker for pure pocket passers. It takes a special type of athlete for me to grab a dual threat guy. Kind of like Fuller.
Posted on 2/11/12 at 1:15 pm to jembeurt
Yeah, this other guy I like is definitely dual threat. I've watched his tapes over a few times and I can't for the life of me figure out why he's ranked so low on most services. He's going to a pretty good program too, and he plays in a big football area, so it's not like this is some small school mystery kid from Idaho going to Ohio University or something.
Posted on 2/11/12 at 1:22 pm to OBUDan
As far as WR, this is the number one reason I passed on Diggs and Agholor. Both are fantastic, but the class is really ridiculous this year. I have a few guys who I really like that are low ranked 3 stars. I think what I will do is wait, and if a really good receiver falls to where I think he shouldn't be, I'll draft him. Then I'll take those other guys as my extra picks.
To be honest, I really haven't looked at too many backs yet. I liked Yeldon, but I usually wait on RBs and WRs so I haven't dug into them just yet. I have really good success with taking RBs late in these drafts.

I liked him a lot as well. I had success taking Clifton Richardson late last year.
I've been hit or miss on WRs. But I agree, this is a pretty special class... lots of really really good players at that position.

Good. It lets me know that I'm having a good draft.
Posted on 2/11/12 at 1:47 pm to OBUDan
I'm thinking after this year (the season, not the draft), I can do a bit of an analysis of the picks of all the return drafters (anyone who is still doing it and did it for at least 2 years) to see how successful their picks have been.
Not rankings, per se, just kind of a bare bones percentage on "hits" and "misses".
I imagine I'll be quite low, because virtually my entire 2010 team quit, is in jail, or are working on one of the two.
