with x1 you might as well just quote the thing and leave it at that. x1 does not add to anything.

At least it would indicate that there was some level of effort put forward. "+1" is so weak. The only weaker crap you could possibly put forth is to say "0" or "1". Binary laziness is the only thing that could be weaker...
