It’s unfair to compare to what was perhaps the best offense in college football history.

If our offense and defense are better than last year, we have a shot. I’ll be happy with that.

Burrow masked a lot of shortcomings in that OL. He was the reason they won that award that year. They weren’t the best OL in football.

They had decent games but also gave up a ton of pressures also.

If Nuss can progress and get rid of the ball quickly, it can hide a lot of problems on the o line

Yes, that OL wasn’t anything super special. Burrow was just that damn good. Nuss will have to have improved by light years to even be close to that.

That all depends on the OL.

WR situation is nowhere close to 2019 or 2023. None of it will matter unless Nuss learns to take the 10 yards of open grass and run.

What? It’s easily our best position save maybe for edge rushers. It may be the deepest and most talented WR group in the country. No Chase or Jefferson, but it should be a lot deeper than that ‘19 group. Which, in fairness, didn’t need to be. But we should be able to sustain more injuries, God forbid.

And who said all our WRs have similar builds? That’s absurd.

But no, this offense could be very good, but it won’t be 2019 good. THAT’s absurd. This thread is absurd, and the dumbass OP troll knows it. 2019 was the best offense in college football history. We could really good this year. We could have the best offense in college football this year. But it won’t be the 2019 offense.

What? Why are you even here then? Just log in in October if you don’t want to discuss anything until then. I doubt Chicken wants us to all wait 3 full months to start discussing football. That’s ridiculous.

Not only did all the OL on that team wind up making NFL rosters, they all started games as rookies. (Saddiq was on pace to start for Washington, I believe and started some preseason games before getting hurt).

Did Joe help them? Of course. But I’m not sure where this notion of him just always getting rid of the ball so fast masked a ton of deficiencies came from. Did he see things at the line and get rid of the ball fast? Absolutely. But that was more to get the ball to Chase or Jets as fast as possible and let them do their thing than it was to avoid sacks. Joe kept plays alive a ton with his elusiveness.

That lead to big plays down the field, to him picking up huge 1st downs with his feet, but also to sacks. He’s never been one to just give up on plays and throw it out of bounds asap to avoid sacks. It’s why he takes so many in the NFL. Trying to make things happen. Cinci’s OL is just that much worse than the ‘19 LSU OL, relatively.

That line was probably a bit overrated because of Joe. But they were overrated so much that it’s come all the way back around and they’re now extremely underrated. They were t the best OL in CFB history, but they were absolutely deserving of the Joe Moore that season.

We have better depth though? Lots of weapons but no true #1 honestly.

I think Treydez could be the X factor for us this year. I also think Kyle Parker was on his way to breakout before his injury. Let’s see what happens. Lots of potential for the whole group
Hilton is a deep threat everytime . Him and Nuss have that chemistry .

Or Watkins. And Berry will likely get a ton of catches too. He’ll be on the field a lot with Durham, imo. I’m not sure about touches, but I bet he has more receiving yards than rushing. Assuming Kaleb Jackson can be enough of a factor carrying the ball to spell Durham. Berry is just so damn smooth with the ball in his hands, they’re gonna have to figure out ways to split him out or put him in motion and get him the ball in space around the LOS.

We don’t have NFL HOFers at WR that will walk into the league and automatically be top 5 guys as soon as they step on the field. But I’m not sure we’ve had the depth of toys to play with on offense that we do this year. Maybe ever.

Now, one of the things that made that ‘19 team so elite was that we didn’t need that many toys. A huge part of their success was that they never came off the field and didn’t allow for defensive substitutions. That will be a challenge for Sloan, Frank, and Hankton, probably. Especially early in the season. Figuring out a substitution rhythm. But this team should be able to sustain a couple of minor injuries and not miss much of a beat. (Not counting Nuss. Then I’d say Durham and—frick—Hilton are probably the next 2 in line of guys that injuries would be most devastating to the skill guys).

No doubt. But word out of spring was that he’s much more than that, now. He’s developed into a compete WR. Word was he was by far the best overall guy in the group.

Can’t be overstated. That’s why I think he’s probably the 2nd most important skill guy behind Durham (not counting Nuss). I think those 2 are probably the most irreplaceable as far as making this offense the best it could possibly be.

Deep threat but can’t catch a ball to save his life…let’s see if he changes it.

Don’t have much faith in him if we’re being honest. Can’t catch or gets hurt. Hope I’m wrong!
