i think matulis and bourgeois will be the pitchers to really step in and make a difference.

also, alsup was pretty nasty in relief in midweek last year.....has to be a bit more consistent.

i really have a lot of faith in the lineup this year outside of the dh, but i'm sure we'll find a guy that can add some pop and can hopefully hit .300. gaudet is strong as hell. not sure he can hit .300 though. we'll see. wait to you guys see some of the kids hit.

watch out for mason katz getting some at bats as well. that kid has real nice bat control and power for a smaller guy.

Koeneman has hit 50 HR's the past two years in JUCO. Look for him to make a big splash. Could be another Matt Clark.

RF usually goes to the player with the strongest arm. So I think Mahtook has the strongest arm of the 3. They all 3 could be CF.

fwiw, i had the opportunity to talk to one of the coaches a few weeks ago and asked about the OF and specifically who was going to play right and he said that they're not that concerned with arm strength because we don't throw people out (we threw no one out last year from the OF). he said it's more on d and doing the small things... and from what i can tell, we'll be pretty stout on d.

It's not just about throwing people out, it's the threat of throwing runners out that prevents teams from taking extra bases.

yeah, i heard gaudet/koenemen battle. both are pretty big dudes. we'll see who can be a more consistent hitter.

The lineup looks like it did 2 years ago. He has his power hitters spread out at 3 (Dean), 6 (Mahtook) and 9 (DH)....in '08, he had Dean at 3, Clark at 6 (although he moved him to 5 late in the season) and Schimpf at 9. Last year, he put Schimpf at 2, which is where is Landry now. Mainieri knows he has a lot of talent and will go with an unorthodox lineup if he thinks it will work but will change it up if it isn't. That's why fans love this guy.
