But, let me ask, what makes everyone so confident that a team with an adequate defense and awesome passing offense(Boise, Stanford, OU, Oklahoma St) couldn't beat LSU(team with awesome defense but only adequate offense?)
man, it's not mathematics; there is no linear relationship nor standard deviations. those teams with awesome passing and adequate defense don't beat the awesome defense teams BECAUSE THEY CAN'T SCORE ENOUGH POINTS TO WIN. it has been proven over and over again. have you been living under a rock or are you an okie lite fan.

keep ignoring the topic at hand, it will serve you better than trying to defend the idiocy in the OP

As I recall TN Bhoy was clowning himself in that thread with claims of Bray being better than Kellen Moore

And that's a correct statement. We'll see who's in the NFL in a few years.
Dis thread be bookmarked.

Oklahoma St - adequate defense?
Posted on 11/6/11 at 12:32 pm to TheSexecutioner
It's simple,
Our D>their O
Our O >their D
It's not Offense vs Offense

People keep running on about history but it seems to me history has shown the formula for winning is having an offense that puts up lots of points and a defense that can hold a team to only a few scores.
Since the BCS started in 1998, the winner of the game has averaged 33 points and the loser 19.
Is 33-19 average score really that supportive of Defense wins championships? 52 combined points is a lot.

go find the overall and scoring defense ranks for the WINNING team in the BCS CG since 1998.
im willing to bet both are significantly better than anything okie state has to offer on average.

Agreed. I don't think Oklahoma St will make it past Oklahoma, though.

Who says LSU and Bama can't score lots of points?
They were averaging 40 ppg going into last night.
Just because they don't subscribe to the "throw it 45 times a game for 350 yards" style of offense doesn't mean they can't put points on the board.
I would take LSU or Bama's running game over OSU's passing game any day of the week.

And don't give me this "great defenses beat good offenses nonsense." If that were the case, the NFL wouldn't be becoming such an offensive game. With a good quarterback, there is just no way to cover all receivers regardless of how great a defense is.
PI in the NFL is a spot foul whereas in college, its only 15 yards. That is one of the biggest reasons the NFL has become a passing league, and the fact they toned back what corners could do because Bill Polian cried to the competition committee after the Patriots would rough his WRs up. Oh, and here's your example why you are dead wrong. 2007 New England Patriots lost in the Super Bowl to a team that could rush the passer. That is one of the best passing teams known to man, and they were beat because of defense.

I understand we beat Oregon but they hardly have the passing ability to have a really prolific offense. In my opinion, good run defense>good running team but good passing defense<good passing offense.
Uh, what? Going into the game last night, our QB had 13 touchdowns and 1 interception. OH NOZ, A MAINLY RUNNING TEAM DIDN'T THROW FOR TEXAS TECH TYPE NUMBERS!!?!??! Watch more football, then maybe you won't look dumb as shite trying to talk about it on the Rant.

I guess you don't place much emphasis on ball control and controlling the tempo of the game.

Sure, if they played each other again.

Thats a loaded stat. In almost every schedule lies at least 3 cream puffs that are designed to be blown out. Who cares if you put up 30 or 50 on them if your defense holds them to 3?
Oh and running the ball limits an oppositions total amount of drives, and if done right, keeps their offense on the sideline. This will usually throw the offense into a funk, especially if its based on timing throws.

I should have been more clear. They have averaged that in the actual BCS Championship game. Not their season average. So the average score of the BCS Championship game is 33-19. Not really a loaded stat.

Maybe we both look beatable if we play against two teams that are as good as Alabama and LSU but there are none.

Wait, did you play high school football? I didn't know we had an ex-ball player in this thread. You should have said something. We would have all stood down and just taken your opinion since you used to play football.
