Don't think so. I would love to have had McFadden on the LSU team, but have never had any interest in having Nutt. He is an ok coach, and certainly was a step up for Ole Miss from O, but Nutt has never been on my list of coaches I would like to see at LSU.
That's why I said "most" of yall. Of course, every single person on here will say they NEVER wanted Nutt as a coach, he's always underacheived, blah, blah, blah, even if they did.
Not saying that's you, but I know lots of people wanted Nutt, especially after Saban left, hell Saban recommended him, and would have wanted him after 07 too.
But now he sucks and can't win. Underacheiver. Typical.

hey are coming off of a great year.
8-4 is great now? Plus, they lost 2 1st rounders off that team. They may go 10-2/11-1, but to predict it seems kinda stupid.
I don't care about his preseason picks, but I loathe Tim Brando. I don't believe there has ever been anybody more in love with himself than that douchebag.

Knowing Tim personally he is a big LSU fan, and he certainly has to keep that hidden as best as possible in regards to his job. With that said his prediction isn't entirely out of the realm of possibilities, although it's unlikely.

mean, is it really that crazy of a prediction?
Yes yes it is. #3 team in the country? From a team that went 8-4, the year before, and has 2 new starters on the Oline, both of whom I believe are sophomores.
Not only that but how many times in BCS history has an SEC team lost the SEC CG and gone on to finish as high as third? Not often I believe. His own prediction goes against logic

They lost their four games by a total of 19 points, but more importantly they closed the regular season on a five game win streak and then won basically a road game against a one loss Texas Tech team in their bowl. So yeah, I'd say they had a great year.
They clearly got better as the season went on and they are certainly pointed in the right direction going into this season with as easy of a schedule as you can have in the SEC nowadays.
I'm no Brando lover either, but some of the responses in this thread were just dumb. Sure, predictions are all pretty silly when you think about it, but somebody's gotta finish #3, and he thinks things line up well for Ole Miss, so I don't think its a stupid prediction at all.
The QB factor in the SEC can't be overlooked, and Snead is the real deal. I know they lost some talent, but they bring plenty back, including McCluster and Hardy who will be All SEC.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see OM and UF headed to Atlanta undefeated. I know that an undefeated team in the SEC is virtually impossible nowadays, but OM's schedule is a rarity too.

No arguments here.

LSU lost 5 in 02 before winning it all in 03. UF lost 3 in 05, won it in 06, and 4 in 07 before winning it in 08.
As for 2 new starters on the OLine, so what? LSU and Bama lost 2 OL more important than OM's two. Oher was a great player, but people lose starters every year. Its the nature of college football.
The bottom line is that Ole Miss is in about as good of a position as anyone can be heading into an SEC season. They'll be favored in every game they play, so predicting them to take care of business isn't "crazy" or "stupid".

Alabama dropped to #4 after losing the SECCG last year. If OM and UF are undefeated going into the game, the loser is likely to only drop to #3, depending on how the other conferences play out.

That is alot for the only team from the West that has never been to Atlanta.

On Ole Miss: Obviously, you must pick one team to win the West right now and Ole Miss, based on their schedule alone, should make them a solid pick. However, they play 11 straight games after a week off after playing at Memphis.
Be careful of a young team going on the road (early) to South Carolina (Thursday night)and on a short week. And the road trip to Auburn will always be tough.
But no Championships in 40+ years, means they are the Cubs of the SEC. I like 9-3 for Ole Miss and a solid Capital One bowl game. One unexpected loss to either Ark, Scaro or Vandy, at least 2 losses among LSU, Bama, UT and Auburn.
And oh by the way, do not sleep on Memphis inte opener. Reading headlines about howgreat you are and then having go play the opener on the road in that teams biggest game of the year!! And Memphis will be decent. especially if they can get some semblance of a O-Line.
You have to go with Pedigree in the SEC....Bama or LSU if you are handicapping on substance and not hype.

That is actually the best, and least cited, argument against OM running the table. Well done.

The best argument for Ole Miss failure is tradition. There is a difference between a 4-5 loss season being considered an abberation as it has been with Fla and LSU, and being considered a sign of great things to come, as it is at OM.
Those who think OM will be a big factor have one "H" on their side. It's called "hype." "History" of performance, not so much.
My son teaches at OM and he reports that the old timers are excited in a realistic sort of way. Disappointment has never been very far around the corner at OM and they have been here before. I think they'll find their level.

OM will have a tough time running the ball and an even tougher time stopping the run

I simply cannot see this point of view. Tradition is something that has to be built. Its gotta start somewhere, and the bottom line is, OM looked like they were building something last year.
Now, does that mean that OM will now be a consistent power in the West? No. But with Snead and McCluster back in Nutt's dangerous attack and a very solid D returning, they are the favorites in the West. End of story. They'll be favored in every game, and all of their toughest games are at home. That's the best anyone can hope for in the SEC.
All the history talk is silly IMO. Their lack of history didn't stop them in 2003 from going 7-1 in the SEC and coming within 3 points of ending LSU's national title hopes, and LSU was head and shoulders better than OM in 03. That simply isn't the case this year. On paper OM is as talented as anyone they play, if not moreso.
They are the favorites in the SEC, and anyone would simply assumes that they won't win the West because they haven't in the past isn't being very practical. Plain and simple.

Lord, I hope so. This spells sure defeat in the SEC.

While some certainly expressed interest in Nutt, I don't think "most" did.
I thought that Saban's recommendation of Nutt at the time was peculiar. I didn't get it then, and I don't get it now.
Nutt is not a terrible coach. He actually is pretty good, but I have never thought, even in his best years at Arkansas that I would want him at LSU.

Agreed. But I still think that given the talent he has this year, and the schedule they play, OM is in a great position.

Snead is the real deal there is no doubt about that. Second best QB in the SEC behind Tebow.
That said, when has Nutt's team ever come through as a front runner? Never. He plays the underdog well but its a different game when you are the hunted. There is no sneaking up on anyone this year. Ole Miss will have a target. I think we beat them this year.

While I don't agree with Brando, and I think LSU will handle Mississippi this year, this does appear to be a year the Rebs could crack ten wins, including a bowl win.

Here's my theory on Ole Miss. Their season was built on three very impressive wins. And I feel that each of those impressive wins was due extraordinary circumstances.
Florida - this was a classic "upset" game. The better team plays flat while the lessor team has everything go their way, including a few big plays.
LSU - while Ole Miss beat LSU soundly, it was a shell of an LSU team. Give them all the credit for winning the game, but after LSU lost to Alabama, our heart was just not in it anymore. Had LSU beaten Alabama, there is no doubt that we would have shown way more strength against Ole Miss, and again I beleive that we would have beaten them, and it would have been us in the:
Cotton Bowl against Texas Tech. This seemed like a big win, but the truth was that the Big XII was vastly overrated last season. No one in the Big XII South played anyone out of conference that they should not have beaten. When Ole Miss beat Texas Tech, it was proof that the defenses in the SEC were better than the wacky offenses in the Big XII.
Given those three game scenarios, I don't find it much of a stretch to say that Ole Miss will fall back a little this season. Now, again this is just a theory. One that I hope is right, but a theory nonetheless.
