There have only been 2 defensive lineman to finish in the top 4 of the heisman vote since 1980 (and they were both DTs who finished at #4). The last time a DE finished top 4 was in 1980 when Hugh Green racked up 77 solo tackles and 46 assists, including 28 tackles for a loss and 17 sacks. He also had 7 forced fumbles and 4 recoveries. That’s what it has historically taken for a DE to finish top 4.
For comparison, there have been 7 players with more sacks than young in just the last 14 years. He’s doing something that gets done every other year, and yet he’s been elevated to a once in a generation heisman result based entirely on media hype.
Yes he’s a great player, and yes we would all love to have him at LSU. I’m quite certain that exactly 0 people are saying otherwise. But no, objectively speaking, he is not having the kind of spectacular outlier of a season that would otherwise warrant him to be on the final heisman stage. The media just needed a story to counteract Burrow’s runaway win, so they chose the best defensive player and over-hyped the year he was having in order to generate clicks.

Jaylon Ferguson (La Tech, 2018) Total tackles: 65 Tackles for Loss: 26.5 Sacks: 17.5
Chase Young (Ohio St, 2019) Total tackles: 44 Tackles for Loss: 21.0. Sacks: 16.5
He did miss two games because of his suspending.
But, that's actually another reason for him to not be on that stage.

He had 11.5 sacks in conference play. Stop being a homer and acting like the guy isn't elite. He'll be the 1st or 2nd guy picked in the draft.
Guarantee he won't be first

Not sure about that.... Cincy is stupid.

Not to mention Young was suspended for 2 games.
This along with his less than spectacular stats should leave him out of the discussion!

That’s why he’s not winning it. If he had three sacks in each of those games, and finished with 22.5 he SHOULD win a Heisman.
Dumbass

Doesn’t matter. He’s not winning it anyway.

I agree burrow is the runaway but you have to have not watched the games if you don’t think young had any impact vs Wisconsin. He’s still getting consistent pressure and forcing bad throws. Getting no sacks doesn’t mean your not making an impact that’s a lazy argument

The OT's that Young has faced for most of the year are garbage. Affrenee and Terrel Lewis are better than Chase Young. They just don't have the luxury of playing against garbage all year. OSU and Young's performance have been trending down since the competition has gotten better.

They played almost the same schedule save for 3 games? (Not literally, just pointing out that Ohio State really only played 2 real teams all season pen st. And Michigan)
