A successful track program helps the football team recruit, and also raises the level of awareness of the school.

Losing Henry was a terrible move.

started this thread last night

i see no justifiable reason for not keeping far and away the most successful coach in your athletic dept's history...outside of henry demanding millions and the best facilities in the world, which from what i understand he did nothing close to that

YES

we can get better football players if they are guaranteed the chance to run track

lsu has people in the olympics, people on national tv

i was at the mideast regional track meet, and there were people in attendance just to watch trindon. people know lsu has a dominant track program

we could keep hanging banners with pat. he just pulled off a double outdoors. you know the other coach that did it? pat henry

we had the best coach in the history of the sport at the collegiate level and didnt pay him the money to stay

bad bad decision

Skip was not AD when Laval was hired.

smoke was hired right around the end of joe dean and start of skip, not sure who exactly was the AD on the exact day smoke took over

but it is a fricking stone cold fact that skip hand picked smoke to be his successor

Coach Henry loved how Texas supported high school track and field.

He hated how La. didn't.

He is from the west.

He coached in Texas before LSU.

He had an opportunity at A&M that was almost too good to pass up.

That AD at A&M made big money moves for several coaches in several sports over the years.

Could Skip offered him better money to keep him? Maybe. But La. does not have the resources in T&F like Texas does. He always hated it too.

Cant wait to see how many times Skip tries to get on camera during the CWS. Not to mention he and Sandy trotting on the field like they are Tom Benson's twins if we do win it all like they've been doing after the regionals. Nothing like a glory hog who cant let go of the spotlight.

yep skip hand picked the guy that tried to derail our baseball monster.

His ego picked smoke so he would not be forgotten and then he let pat walk away bc pat was racking up national titles.

I love the ranter logic of if you dont skip was good then you are a joe dean fan

from what i understand, henry wanted a modest raise, that instead went to pokey chatman, and improvement to the indoor facility

he didnt want the damn keys to the university

actually

skip started as the lsu AD in 2001

smoke was the admin asst in 2001, and head coach in 2002

so this guy who keeps saying that really needs to do some fricking research and know what hes talking about

everyone knows smoke was the handpicked successor by skip.

These are good points, but the track program does not define the success or failure of an Ad. Is it your contention that Skip was overall a bad AD for not keeping Henry? It's just a question...again I would like to know what you think.

if true this makes the choice even fricking worse.

skip great baseball coach and great with money.

You could throw the miles hire into the not so great moves. Yes miles has brought us a title but at that point in time LSU should have been able to get a big proven name. Skip didn't want to open the wallet though
