honestly how many college qbs are going to go through their reads when their primary read is wide open for a 19 yard gain?

you missed the point of the breakdown. A good QB understands the coverage and changes his primary read to deep middle.

this also dispels the myth that "JJ had no time to throw deep" that so many here have been clamoring about. not only did he have time he had guys open. heck, let's give him a break on that pass. Why didn't he go back to the middle after that? or take a deep shot greater than 19 yards?Hmmnn.

No I get it. A very good college qb will take their time surveying the field to readjust his read, but when a shaky qb (who has now graduated) to begin with is flustered in the biggest game of his life and he sees his primary read is wide open and it gets a 19 yard gain is there really a reason to dissect that play as to why hes a bad qb? Im sure theres other plays that show it moreso.

ETA I would understand beating this play to death if we had to go through another year of JJ vs JL. However I think its useless for the purposes of piling on the guy who has already taken the brunt of the blame for this game.

BTW, Lee crossed midfield on the 1st series in Nov. He should have never been pulled after that 1st pick. McCarron wasn't.

I had no problem with that first pick, a 20 yard interception on 3rd down. Of course that was it.

Les did a good job of brainwashing both QB's that throwing a pick is the worst thing a QB can do. JJ excelled at not throwing picks by only throwing to his 1st read when the 1st read was wide open.

JJ/JL can't make reads and aren't good QBs...stop the presses.

Good link and good analysis....solid post.

Thanks.

Very interesting. Thanks for the link.

The third part illustrates that you evaluate by not only what did happen (nice completion to OBJ) but what (within reason) could have happened (TD to DP).

(Note: not very well-written; some of the statements mangle the king's english but it's still decipherable)

Confirms that Jefferson was a terrible choice for qB. Maybe LM should have planned ahead better. Underscores his...inflexibility IMO.

OBJ was not the primary read once the QB has made a pre-snap assessment of the defensive alignment. Jefferson has an extremely low IQ in this regard evinced by the fact that he never got one iota better in 4 years. The real question is, however, why LM could not seem to understand this.

Yep..he missed the point.

Play set-up called for the QB to read the coverage. This was pretty much cover 2 show and the snap of the ball confirmed it.

While OD was the primary receiver, the play appears to be designed for Peterson to be the home run if opened and defense is playing Cover 2. Hell, it might have been an adjustment at half.

It looks like the previous play set this one up.

Albeit very frustrating to read through, it's teaching a guy who knows little about the game a good bit.
