It'll never end will it? Until ESPN creates the ESPN-LSU channel

Actually, no, you're the first one to bring it up.

quote:

As everyone surely knows there is a negative bias towards LSU when it comes to the ESPN broadcasts.

ESPN has no bias against LSU. They have a bias against low ratings. When news about LSU generates ratings, it's on ESPN. When something else does, it's on ESPN.

quote:

They never seem to give us the respect we deserve all they ever have is Holtz and Corso trying to talk down our team every week.

They say whatever will get people to watch. Controversy gets people to watch. What's more interesting to a casual non-involved viewer:

A) "LSU is a much better team than Mississippi State, and is probably going to blow the Bulldogs out on ESPN this Thursday", or

B) "LSU better watch out! This is a much improved Mississippi State team, and LSU is starting an unproven quarterback, so Mississippi State could very well pull off the upset"?

quote:

what do we have to do to gain the national respect

We have it. We were the first team in modern history to win the national championship with two losses, in part because polls, influenced by ESPN and other media, voted us #2 over other very good teams with two losses, and over one BCS league team that only had one loss.

quote:

a series for the past week titled "Titletown USA."

A meaningless summer filler program to pass the time until real sports start up again. Don't let it get you flustered.

quote:

I could go on but I am tired.

Too bad. You forgot our 1935 national championship in boxing.

That is almost certainly not true. THere was a time when I used to think this, back in my more immature days, but in all reality, the media as a whole including ESPN really did nothing but praise LSU last year and in my opinion really helped us get into the MNC game. We got all kinds of positive coverage and lots of coverage in general. Let's face it we were media darlings last year. If we weren't ranked as high as we were after the Arky loss, there is no way we get in.

My only argument is this:

LSU has the most national titles out of any school in the SEC (thanks to women's track).

Seems like they would go to the school in the SEC that has this claim.

Oh well. Who cares? ESPN is going to do what's best for ESPN. That's their job.

Oh, come on! When's the last time we won a National title in basketball? Let alone two in a row sandwiching a football MNC? If we could have somehow won the NC in baseball this year, then we've got a good arguement.

Id have to give ESPN some credit, especially with the way they covered LSU-Tulane, I remember leaving that game thinking we were gonna get hammered in the media. When I watched the ESPN highlights later, what many voters and coaches see, ESPN made it look like we dominated Tulane, 34-9 or whatever it was... I was pleasently surprised....

No there is not. We got all the respect in the world and then some last year.

Is there a Big 10, Big12, Pac 10 bias because those games are carried by ABC ? Probably so. There is not an anti-LSU bias.

If you want to make a true argument about Baton Rouge being Titletown, don't forget the success that Southern has had. All of the major sports achievements of the BR area should come into play.

The point of the "Titletown" stuff is to see what town or city can lay claim to....well....Titletown. It isn't just about a single college or pro franchise.

To be fair there has to be a bit more than just # of NCs.

It also has to do with the competitiveness of the sport and the level its played at.

I don't think anyone here thinks 2 HS Football state championships are equal to two Super Bowls in prestige.

Uf does have 2 Basketball NC which is very difficult to do and extremely competitive and a football NC within the last two years.

Its worth going to Gainesville if you are going to that many towns.

Better things to complain about are Valdosta or Louisville or why the frick they are bothering to include anyone beside NY, Boston, LA

Why do people continue to bitch about ESPN yet they still watch it everyday? How many times do you have to bang your head on the wall before you say, hey this kinda hurts maybe I should stop?
