Right. Duquesne plays at Hawaii this year so they are eligible to play a week 0 game. It’s not that complicated.

Not gonna lie, FSU fans were very happy to see the tune up game before facing a very talented LSU team. They say the biggest jumps for a season are between week one and week two.
That being said, if we don't see 2nd and 3rd string in the game the entire second half, something is wrong. Aside from the possible first drive of the third quarter so the first string offense gets a feel of what it is like to take the halftime adjustments to the field.

There's positives and negatives to doing this. I think you're looking into it way hard. Yes, it helps FSU to iron kinks out but it also forces them to play at least a small bit of their hand in front of us and show any glaring weaknesses. LSU has the advantage of FSU has absolutely dick idea how we'll run an offense and defense on top of what our obvious weaknesses are. They will have to watch how House and Denbrock ran their scheme in the past and that's not going to help them with LSU's current personnel. They basically have to GUESS with LSU so that's a huge advantage in our favor.

Trying to get a Week 0 game would have likely meant paying Southern, UAB, or New Mexico to not play them, then paying someone else that is on Hawaii's schedule to play them in Week 0.
