I'm drawing an inference - when you said

I would hardly call LSUs football program elite, we've only been good for a few years

I assumed you didn't mean 50 years. Certainly we're as good as most teams over the last 50 years. Miami had a flare, Florida is in the middle of a flare, and we had a "reverse" flare in the 90s (and certainly a couple of dips here and there). My point about 58-73, was that, despite being in Bear Bryant's shadow, we were able to produce as much football success, over a very comparable period in history (1 year shifted) as the vaunted Notre Dame, under the Vaunted Ara Parsegian. And to refute your comment that we've only been good "a few years".

(We were also good in the 30s and 40s, if you would like some more analysis.)

Im the last person to take up for Crowton, but i believe the Jarret Lee debacle of '08 scared the shite out of Crowton and he didnt want JJ in that position. Atleast thats what i hope. Remember, even with all the pick 6's in '08 the offense wasnt that bad. Just my opinion.

I love LSU football and while I know they arent the greatest program by other peoples standard, they are the greatest in my eyes.

on numbers

LSU has 3 titles

Ohio State has 5, and 1968 was the last one before 2002. Hardly dominate.

Texas has 4.

Michigan has 4. 1997 was the last and before that 1948

They are historic programs but hardly dominate

This is true, we had literally no defense that year, but with the way crowtons numbers nose dive year after year I just have to believe that the bad offensive production falls on his shoulders, I do hope he proves me wrong this year, but my guess is that he won't

They're winning percentages are higher than LSU's in an overall aspect, and that was in the hay day of the big ten respectively

Yes...you did, but you didnt include LSU. And considering they're in the top 10 on the all-time list i would put them in the elite category.

I don't know how those polls are compiled but I still don't see LSU as a all-time elite team, I think we've been making a strong case for ourselves in the last 9 years which is where alot of the fame has come from because of the sec dominance of cfb the past few years, but LSU was known more for its drinking and loud fans more than its team until this decade, with our stints in the llate 50's on the cmac era

I know Michigan has the most win's of any college football program. however, does anyone know how many n.c's they have?

I think you may be confusing elite with historic. And even then, LSU has been a very good team (except for the 90's) for a long time.

This is usually a big problem on this board is the different ideas of what something is, I do think that LSU is a great program and has been for a long time, I just wouldn't put them in the same boat as teams like Michigan, ND, Bama, USC. Thats all I'm saying

Crowton and Miles have inspired dozens of loyalists who will fight to the bitter end. Their offensive genius is just not obvious to us peons. We don't have "it." We are incapable of seeing how stellar they really are.

We aren't "football smart". Les and Gary know more collectively about football than the entire universe.
