If he gets in, ask him to ask the band director to teach new songs, especially from this decade. Thanks
We try, and then they get banned thanks to the student section. That or they're Ke$ha.

Sad sad thing watching all them woodwinds walk into the IFF and only a few of them come back the next morning...
Truth. I was cut my freshman year in the "Woodwind Holocaust" of '08, when there was a huge influx after the national championship. I know the piccolos were cut from the mid-30s to 12 - nearly 2/3.

the band director called me into his office and said that my marching had to improve greatly or I wouldn't survive the third cut.
My marching skills were rather poor my freshman year. In high school we marched 6 to 5 and TB is 8 to 5. I practiced before summer practice started and I could out march a Golden Girl.

There's always some casualties, but I don't think clarinet cuts will be so bad this year.
Don't turn the wrong way twice and pass out again.

I auditioned for Bovi in his office the spring of my senior year ('90) in HS. There was a mix-up on what I thought we were supposed to play (a prepared piece) and what we were actually supposed to play (the all state audition music and scales).
The week before my audition my HS band was on a National Adjudicators trip. So when we got back I had to audition for Bovi two days later. I had not looked at the all state audition stuff for quite a while so when Bovi told me that was what I had to play I was basically sight reading it. I was laughably bad
I left the audition realizing I just shite the bed and was not going to make TGBFL. I got a letter a week later saying I had made the second cut, which I couldn't believe. Bovi had come to our HS and worked with us and i think he remembered me and basically gave me a pass on my shitty audition.
So in the fall i get there and breeze through the freshmen week. The next week is regular band pre-season and it becomes apparent that something is terribly amiss. A full 1/3 of my section (mellophones) cant read a drill chart and they cant play for shite. we soon found out that the GBFTL had gone through a purge from the season before. This was two years after the famous Gainesville trip (which meant we were going back to Florida) when all of the pool furniture was thrown in the pool. This was also the season after the famous pictures of hungover GBFTL members at the Saints/Falcons game. Linda had orchestrated a massive purge and they banned all drinking. the people that weren't purged out quit on their own.
So many of us made TGBFTL because there was nobody else who wanted to be in it.

Oh Linda...
They still don't allow drinking for anyone on trips because of that.

Y'all are so cute when y'all talk about band stuff <3
Posted on 7/16/13 at 3:32 pm to los angeles tiger
Yeah, but your marching skills in Shreveport were much better than ours in Jeanerette!!

asked my son about this, he said he has always done 8 to 5,22 1/2" and claims to have down pat.
liked hearing that

Where'd he go to HS? Judging from that I can probably give decent odds
Posted on 7/16/13 at 10:57 pm to CSATiger
Knowing 8 to 5 doesn't really matter because I'm sure he was roll stepping in high school. He has to learn how to peak step 8 to 5 (pregame) in 4 days.
It's not hard if you're not retarded. Though some retarded people do make the band. Those are mostly brass players.

Boat, you're still in the fricking band? Seems like you've been in since 2008

Nah. I retired after graduating my 5th year. I'm just breaking balls man.
I'd go back any day for my last season if I could
