Wow, just wow. Over react much? I mean it's not like there are monuments to LSU's national championships there. I didn't know the new Alex Box was some kind of architectural wonder like the Taj Mahal.
To another poster's point about Eric Lane and Tulane. I don't think the Lanes consider themselves a "Tulane" family, or any kind of college family. They do all love baseball though. Who gives a shite where they came from, as long as they dump money into LSU.

do you really think this is a phenomenon exclusive to arkansas, coon .. really ???? no, this is the landscape of college sports and it is going on all around the country .. stadiums, practice facilities, athletic complexes, etc. being named after the benefactors that donated the money to build them .. welcome to the 21st century ...

someone else said we're not arkansas. they also said we're not the nfl or bowl games either. arkansas is just the example being used. i like that LSU doesn't do it. We seem to be making tons of money and haven't had to sacrifice the names of our stadiums for money like other places do, hence our comments of us not being them.

Rag, you need to get the sand out of vag on this one. People are entitled to their opinions, just as you are. Just because they don't agree with you doesn't make them wrong or morons.
I agree with you that this is on the athletic department. I believe this thing could have been built without slapping a donor's name prominently on the thing. Give the guy recognition. Absolutely. He deserves it. Coon's right, with the way it is, most people are going to think Gerry is a former player or coach or something like that, so it's not really a big deal. Yes, the circle/plaza is extremely nice. But having the name of somebody that had nothing to do with the program cheapens it a bit for me (we know. we know. you don't agree).
Also, I prefer the flags in center field. Blast away

and understand, i am making not a point .. not being a dick .. you guys like the recoginition .. gerry lane likes the recognition .. his kids are running his business for him now, but he's just setting their future by seizing a major marketing opportunity .. it is just business ... people in general don't like change ... someone saying gerry lane's name on the plaza completely ruins it is out there in left field ... do all the advertising signs that decorate the outfield wall and the suites ruin the interior appearance of the box ?

it's changing .. look at the delay in building the new box .. it was originally slated to be built in 2007 .. but TAF didn't have the money and had to wait .. trust me, skip was pounding the pavement and offering naming rights to the place in return for the money ..

because they were built basically on speculation on collections of tradition fund money in the stadium .. so TAF didn't need to go outside .. plus, you have to show fans exactly what they are paying for .. different situation, dude ..

My OP merely asked if he had anything to do with the program other than being a donor. My point has remained the same throughout. It just seems wrong.
We've got some common ground though. I never meant this was on Gerry. He's entitled to get his where he can. I just think LSU should have put his recognition somewhere else.

I wouldn't go to a dealership just because the owners name is on the Championship Plaza or he donates money to LSU. It would probably be the last thing to cross my mind when car shopping.

I'm guessing you believe this because he has tacky TV commercials in the baton Rouge area. Had Mr. Lane been a surgeon who donated the funds for the project and thus had his name attached, I suspect you would be less critical.

anyone who is complaining about his name being on it has obviously never taken a marketing or sponsorship class. if the dude is going to pay for it he pretty much gets whatever the hell he wants. if yall want to bitch about something then bitch that LSU did not pay for it themselves, then they could of named it whatever they want.
