If anther coach would have said this about a recruit who switched to LSU you all would be saying he is trash. I don't have a problem with what he said. It was a low blow but not that bad

No it's not. He changed his mind, and under the rules, he's allowed to do that.

I do think the kids who wear the different colors and play games with the baseball hats in front of cameras and all that shite are awful, but as for some kid who is just having a hard time making up his mind and is trying to keep his options open ... whatever happens happens.

When a school tries to hot box you, as a recruit, you have a right to look out for yourself. He doesn't owe anybody anything.

Might be one of the few things I've agreed with you on. Yeah it sucks that Kiel left, but he had every right to do so. Its his choice. Plus LSU has gotten its fair share of recruits in a similar way.

However, you have to consider who Miles was talking to when he said this. He was trying to entertain the fans.

Theres about a million things worse Les Miles could have said. Bobby Petrino giving Les the f*&^ you was MUCH worse than this stupid bullshite. This is a joke of a story and is every reason why I hate espn, don't go to their website or watch their shows if I don't have to. Pure bullshite.

The negativity has to stop at some point.

It isn't helping the team one bit.

Am I happy with everything that CLM does...No.

But instead of tearing him down, he is the coach of this team that most of us love.

How many Bama fans are on Saban's arse all the time?

Not many.

They understand morale is detrimental to making a great team and they do their parts to support that effort.

And they are Gumps...

I really don't see how this is a mitigating factor. If anything, it just makes it worse.

I mean, talking smack about a rival program like Alabama is fair game. I have no problem with that. But why talk about an individual player who bailed weeks ago that we will likely never play against? It just seems petty and pathetic. It's reaching.

Was what he said questionable? Sure. But does it make him lowlife scum? Not in the slightest.

Kids said worse stuff about me I'm sure when I was like 9 years old, and I got over it. Kiel will fail as a football player if he even remotely is affected by this.

No, but that's the thing. The OP has done an amazing job of stirring up a pot of nothing. I listened to the segment after this thread popped up....and Gottlieb never called Les "low life scum" at all. He did say that it was "classless and embarrassing" and "low, catfish at the bottom of the swamp type stuff".

It doesn't necessarily make him scum, but it is sort of disturbing behavior indicative of a bully.

C'mon. He wasn't trying to come off as an arse. He said if for the crowd.

Right, but if a coach (not named Nick Saban) pulls a scholly offer at the last minute he is all kinds of the worse things imaginable and it's ok to call him out on it. In case you forgot oversigning has been a big fricking deal and the NCAA and SEC have taken measures to protect these kids. However, now it's okay for these kids to pull the same shite from the other side of the deal? That shite cost us a recruit. To be so much of a pussy that you can't pick up the phone, send an email, post a tweet, etc. is shitty.

There is a HUGE difference there

I agree. Miles was just talking noise to fellow LSU fans. I'm sure just about every coach does it to some extent, but of course once the national media gets involved is when things get blown way out of proportion.

It's not just some goofy gaffe. It was a deliberate attack on the character of a recruit who decided to leave over two weeks ago. I don't want to make too much out of it, but in it's own small way, it was a really crazy fricking thing to do. I mean, why? Just why? It's bad character.

By itself I would probably ignore it, but the problem here is that it's consistent with a long-term pattern of behavior where Miles's ego is getting more and more out of control.

People can write me off as a disgruntled former fan of Miles all they want, but I'm telling y'all right now, the guy feels high and mighty and he's getting farther and farther out of touch with perspective. My bet is that we'll continue to see more incidents like this from Miles in the future.
