as far as holding the ball goes, this isn't as bad as the play he hit Landry after scrambling...

He held a ball longer than he should have on a one man route with receiver double covered. It happens. Players get sacked, players fumble/throw interceptions, players drop passes and miss tackles. Drew Brees throws some bad interceptions and gets sacked. Tom Brady took a safety last night just like JJ. Maybe they should play the backup since getting sacked for a safety or holding the ball too long is such a terrible thing to do.

In baseball guys strikeout, make errors etc Making bad plays applies to all sports. Still if ref had called it right it would have been a 15yd penalty.

Really bad situation to put JJ into. Everyone knows that isn't playing to his strengths, and in fact is exposing his weaknesses. Not really his fault, but it is the fault of those who put him in that situation. I would guess that play had 15-20% chance at the most to be successful and a chanceto be a disaster.

Bad thing is I knew that play was coming and just thought this may not end well

Yeah, my guess that is if this were a competitive game, that play would not have been called.

the situation was simple. check receiver, if he is covered throw the ball away.

Not really his fault

he should have moved in the pocket or got rid of the ball. it isn't like he was hit from his blind side. the d-lineman hit him straight up.

for the record, i am not bashing jj. the best QBs make mistakes. but those of you saying it wasn't his fault are just making excuses.

Not a chance. Unless JL was at QB.

Two weeks in a row we call a pass play with 1 WR who gets double covered at the line. I don't understand it. No TE. No RB safety valve.

The fact that they called a pass with one receiver, whom was doubled covered, infuriates me

They ran this play with JL a few times this year with a big gain on it.

FYI The ball landed at the feet of a receiver, should not have been IG..

But JJ is slow to throw the ball and has a long throwing motion..

I disagree.

Who do you have more faith in, Brad Wing or JJ?

That was a max protection play with a simple escape option (throw it away). It was designed to prevent catastrophe, not to be a big yardage play. If it it successful great, but that is not why you run that play at that time.

Lee would have thrown a pick 6.

He has to understand the situation.

He has not, he did not, and dare I say he does not.

and this is why the "hope" was with JL.

so it goes. two flawed qb's. college players.
they can both still lead LSU to the national title or both mess up so bad that people pull their hair out, in Ark game or Georgia dome or BCS national champ game.

I don't think you understand what I am saying. JJ has limitations and that play shouldn't have been called in the first place. Very low chance of success IMO

He had time, three step drop then has time to take two steps foward.

If JJ doesn't recognize the coverage before hand and check out of the play, then he just throws the ball away as soon as he does see the route coverage. Zero risk.

this. it astounds me that a sr. qb cannot recognize the double coverage on the only wr we had going out. if he did recognize it and ran the play anyway i remain dumbfounded. of course he needed to check out of it; hell, call a time out. it was a stupid play call and it put him in a position to fail. i don't make a habit of commenting on play calling but this was ludicrous.

I see T-Bob getting demolished and pushed backwards into JJ like he's nothing, but that's nothing new.
