This objective and honest discourse is astounding. You GT fans are class acts.
We're so used to trashy Bama fans, we don't know how to respond to this!

dont think for one second GaTech cant throw the ball. Nesbitt has a surprisingly good arm and i really do think Thomas will be one of the country's best WRs. ive seen every Tech game, went to four, if LSU can beat the hell out of Nesbitt and get the backup Shaw in, Tigers roll.

if not...

actually in this game I imagine GT will throw the ball a lot more than expected. CPJ has been wanting to install more of the run-and-shoot part of the O, but hasn't had the time yet. I imagine this time before the bowl, we'll add some of that into the game (as well as teaching Nesbitt how to fake pitch) and start the game with a lot of play action.

Shaw's athleticism and arm are not in Nesbitt's class, and I'll definitely feel better with Nesbitt in. But I don't think it's a given that Shaw can't win. He waffle-stomped Miss State and Duke, and his passing numbers were better than Nesbitt's this year. Got to admit I've have been a little disappointed when Shaw has come in the second half of the season, though.

More like the flexbone. When it's run effectively, it's almost impossible to stop.

I dunno if that's true but Johnson and his HS/small college flexbone adherents certainly believe it, and I've seen some other folks say the same thing. Johnson repeatedly says that whether we move the ball well or not has more to do with our execution than with the opponent's scheme.

I do think that barring far superior talent (e.g. upper-BCS league vs. Navy or GSU) it can't be completely stopped.

Then the key is to limit big gains, force GT to drive the field and try to get turnovers.

Swallow your pride and accept that holding GT to 250 rushing yards and under 350 total yards would be an outstanding effort for anyone but Bama or USC. Be willing to give up first downs to limit long plays. Play good special teams and pin GT deep. Be able to make adjustments to counter Tech's, because Johnson has seen every possible defense and he adjusts fast and on the fly.

Do all that, and you have a pretty good chance to win. And it'll certainly happen sometimes.

Was Arkansas considered a good passing team? How about AU? We suck against the pass and make most non proficient passing teams look like the 1985 Miami Dolphins.

GT passes less often than any other BCS school, by a big margin. Averaged something like 11 pass attempts per game this season.

GT is literally NEVER in the shotgun and the OL is never in a 2 point stance. Literally never.
Tech's pass blocking is very bad at this point. Tech also uses very little zone blocking in the running game. The run-blocking is very old school, fire off the ball with a lot of cut blocking and the OL's are trained to head-hunt at the second level. To a large degree GT's OL scheme seems to sell out pass blocking for more aggressive run blocking.

I think it will improve but GT's core offensive philosophy makes the pass a complementary play. It's just not gonna be what most fans think of as a "balanced" attack. Johnson runs the ball for 2-point conversions and on 3rd and long.

Let me add a few more "tidbits" for those who don't know a whole lot about GA Tech, if you don't mind:

1) GA Tech was projected to win three games all year and finish next to last in our ACC Division

2) GA Tech installed a brand new offense (Triple Option), using players recruited for totally different style (Pro-Style) of play

3) GA Tech installed a brand new dew defense

4) GA Tech played with a limited number of scholarship players due to NCAA sanctions, players transferring with new coaches/personal reasons, players quitting football due to medical and academic reasons, etc.

5) GA Tech suffered numerous injuries to key players, at key times, during the course of the year, forcing GA Tech to play with several second and third team players, many of which were Scout and walk-on players

6) GA Tech ended the season with 75 underclassmen playing, including 16/22 starters who are freshmen and sophomores

7) GA Tech will start next year with only seven seniors on the team

8) GA Tech had 12 games with 64 plays that went for 20 or more yards

9) GA Tech had 9 scoring drives that took 1 minute or less

10) ACC Coach of the Year (Paul Johnson)

11) ACC Offensive Player of the Year (Jonathan Dwyer)

12) ACC Player of the Year (Jonathan Dwyer)

13) ACC 2008 James E. Tatum Award Winner (Darryl Richard)

14) BCS 3rd leading rushing offense (282/game)

15) BCS 14th leading rusher (Jonathan Dwyer – 1328 total, 110.7/game, 7.0 avg./12TD)

16) BCS 5th leading QBRat (Jaybo Shaw – 194.0)

17) BCS leading Pass Interceptor (Morgan Burnett - 7, tied with 3 others)

18) GA Tech is 2 -0 against the SEC this year, averaging 40+ points/game in scoring against them

I can assure you that GA Tech's players are really looking forward to playing the defending National Champions on New Year's eve and they have the utmost respect for LSU; the University, the Athletic program, its Tradition, its Coaches, and its Players.

I would also like to add that if the game ends early enough, there will be a huge New Year's celebration at Underground Atlanta where they have the "Peach Drop," which is the second largest gathering in the US...Join us regardless of the outcome of the game!

Hopefully the hospitality to all of you will be great, but in the event there is someone who isn't so "accommodating," let me be the first to apologize in advance and tell you that we are all looking forward to seeing all of you in HotLanta!
