a little after I moved to Louisiana for my junior year in H.S. and then decided to attend LSU. First ever game was my freshman year in 2002 against The Citadel.

...I was born.
If you watch the tape of my family in the waiting room, they're trying to get Dr. Andoni to tell them if I'm a boy or girl to no avail. Then this beautiful exchange happened:
UNCLE: "Well is it a Tiger?"
DOC: "Of course it's a Tiger!"

...when the team stunk (17 years ago). I grew up in Texas, where kids grow up thinking 12-2 is their birthright. I was still a Longhorn fan when I boarded a plane for BR headed for a game and listened to the all the homebound Tigahs talking about the upcoming game. Two consecutive Saturday nights in Tiger Stadium did the trick. Truth is, I became a Tiger fan BECAUSE of the Tiger fans at the time. No other fan base comes even close to our passion and loyalty. I was 12 and went to the Sugar Bowl in 1959 vs Clemson. I was actually a fan before but that was my first LSU Game.

I am not telling you what to do, only offering an observation. My wife and I are both LSU alums. She was in the band. We are from La and bleed purple and gold.
We moved to Texas in 1989 for jobs. We have made a wonderful life here. It is not our home and never will be. However, it is home for our three daughters. Texas is all they have known.
They love LSU like we do but I wonder if that isn't wrong on some level. They have no ties to the state, culture or the university. The other day my middle daughter said she wanted to go to LSU. (We heard this from daughter #1 already) I wonder if they are living in our dreams? Texas has many good schools they could all attend.
One of my best friends is a Tennessee alum. He grew up and lived in Atlanta all his life. One day I asked him about his ties to Tennessee. He said .."My dad always followed them because his grandparents were from there." I found that pretty twisted.
I am not trying to discourage anyone from taking their kids to LSU games but have questions for displaced Tigers like myself. Are our kids fans of LSU simply because we are? If so, is that a good thing? I don't know. Just asking. Peace out.

For a true Tiger fan that would be like asking them about their first memory. For me there never was a time that I can remember when I wasn't a Tiger fan.

Not sure about that. My wife became a fan only when she stepped foot on campus. She only knew it was the biggest school in the state. I have no memories of not being a fan. I cut out sports page clippings in 3rd grade.
Today my wife is a much bigger fan than me. She would put a second mortgage on the house for NC Game tickets. How do I know? She tried it twice. LOL
I think it is different for everyone.

Not easy to identify when with any accuracy but I remember listening to the voice of the Tigers John Ferguson (along with Walter Hill) with my dad in the late 60's. Used to take that AM radio and hold it ever which way to get a signal.
Always a Tiger ever since.

became a tiger fan in 1989 at 8 years old, My grandfather brought me to fan day and Tommy Hodson signed a dollar bill for me. From that day on, I was a die hard. Funny thing is, I was coaching the eighth grade football team at St. Louis King of France in Baton Rouge, we played St Jude ( I think it was) and Hodson and Mickey Guidry were the damn coaches there. They were callin audibles at the line, hand signaling plays, and pretty much having their way with us. So Hodson made me become a Tiger fan, then kicked my arse later on in life.

Became a Tiger fan in utero during the Cannon punt return game in 59. Both my twin brother and I became fans that night while we floated in amniotic fluid ( punt returned caused a tsunami and then stopping Jake Gibbs at the goal line caused the second tidal wave)
So I married a Razorback up here in Fayetteville but I am raising a die hard Tiger fan who is now 14. His first trip to Tiger stadium was at the age of one during the Bring back the Magic Game against Aubie. My son has purple and gold in his veins just as my dad and his dad before him. However, my son expects national championships every 3 or 4 yrs. He has been to one peach bowl and all three big games in the dome.

Born a tiger fan,
In 1969 my dad ran a concession stand section 10 south upper. Me and my best friend would go to the games with him and sit on the bottom step of the upper deck. To a 9 year old it was like sitting on top of the world. The place was magical to me.
