Even badly bruised ribs can cause breathing problems and restrict playing time. They don’t have to be cracked or broken to be an out-for-the-season diagnosis at this point in the year.
Swinging a bat and shagging flyballs, not to mention throwing the ball back to the in-field, could be near impossible for a couple of weeks.
