This is a very good description of the problem.

We can't have an average defense and win the SEC.

Furthermore, LSU should have one goal every single year and that is the National Championship. End of story. No doubt that it will seldom happen.

But settling for an average defense is a sure sign of mediocrity and will lead to a new coach w/in 2 years.

But here's my case to back me up:

Auburn this year was miserable on offense at the beginning of the season but great on defense.

Miss St......same thing for the past couple of years, great defense/horrible offense(but could be blamed on lack of talent too).

The one general consensus amongst the last ten SEC champions is that they had solid to consistent to great QB play.

As bad as our defense has played this year, you take a Matthew Stafford or even a Snead at Ole Miss and we are in the SEC championship game if not winning it.

in two years should be in contention for another NC title...too much talent here and coming in.

What must happen:

1. A seasoned QB who can lead.
2. Solid D up front and down field.
3. Team discipline.

Then, LSU rules again in two years.

If you visit this board enough you would think we need to terimnate the football program, the sky is falling.
And may also think that many people reside here based on being able to post broad, stupid statements like that which really say nothing except, "I can't add anything of substance to this thread."

Wrong. You need a coach who understands how to accomplish these things.

We still need them (the things he stated).

. Will the DC(whoever it may be) be able to restore the defense? Probably somewhat.

2. Will our QB play improve? Yes, it couldn't get worse, but it won't be great.

3. Will our draft-eligible players return? yes, not any of them realistically draft eligible.

4. Who will emerge on the defensive line alongside Rahim Alem(if RJF doesn't return)?
Drake Nevis and Pep Levingston.

This was a tough year and I don't really think I can get used to 7-5 or 8-4 or worse every year
Look for 8-4 again next year and Chik Fil A or Cotton Bowl.

Miles has been a good coach so far. I believe he already has a plan for defensive coaches and will hire a coordinator from outside. I think this by itself will put us back in contention to win the SEC west.

Now, if he doesn't make any coaching changes, then his shelf life at LSU is very short
