Miles did not have his contract rolled over in 2008 or 2009.
He was still in the normal terms of the contract. What exactly does "roll over" mean? I thought it had to do with extending the contract.

But said rollover would have to be approved by the LSU President.
well, my perception of University President types are more likely to take the cover their arse route, if given the choice.
quote:
If he gets to 8 wins then he is eligible for a rollover.
I still think "8 wins" is cheap.

Ummmm.. it is not up to the Chancellor so I don't see how O'keefe had the authority to do this.
I know 40 pages may be to long for some on the rant but it says on page 7 dated March 12, 2008:
" 3. In exercising the discretion granted in the employment agreement and amendments as to whether to grant a one year term extension, the Chancellor will be guided by the following:
A. Winning eight games or more games in a season presumptively will be the basis for a one-year term extension.
B. A decision by the Chancellor not to grant a one-year term extension for any reason must be concurred in by the President of the LSU System.
4. It is understood that the President and Chancellor will recommend to the Board at its next regular meeting that the provisions ........... be amended to change the amount referenced therin from $15 million to $18.75 Million.
So it is not automatic that he get the roll over with 8 wins and it it up to the Chancellor to make the decision the the President has to concur and the Board has to sign off on it.
All are invloved but it sound s like the Chancellor gets the ball rolling.

Also, the contract termination clause was changed. If LSU fires Miles without cause, the coach could be owed as much as $15 million, up from $10 million.
last sentence of the article. that's a shite pot full of money

Those saying Ed Daniels is wrong better look at this:

what do you want us to look at? it was a 5 year deal pending roll overs. Since it was made, it hasn't been rolled over. Daniels is wrong.

Unbelievable. Every team in the final top 25 last year won at least 9 games. 18 won 10 or more games.
7 SEC teams won at least 8 games.
This is the criteria we use to decide whether or not to continue paying a coach $4 million?

Someone should be put in jail for that nonsense.

Hard to believe that it how easy it is for Miles. Remember that when this was signed everyone was in love with him because of the "Mad Hatter/ Fear The Hat" play calling, the SEC/National Championships, the "Have a Great Day" speach, and staying at LSU instead of leaving for Michigan.
My question is was he rolled over after the 2008 season and after the 2009 season? The last "extension" on this web page is from April 2008 so that would mean the contract ends in 2012.

Seems like people in such lofty positions wouldn't be that short-sighted.
But again, they were covering their asses given the prevailing mood. No matter what happened after that, they could always just say they were doing what the fanbase wanted at the time.

All that does is change a math error, to show the total amount of the contract from that point on - 5 years x $3.75 million.
$18.75 million would only have been the figure payable to Miles upon his firing if he'd been fired sometime between the day the contract was signed, and the day Miles got his first paycheck under the new contract. It is a maximum, not a fixed number. And having a buyout be = to the remaining salary on the contract is very common. My guess is that's how the majority of college coaches' contracts are set up.

Yes I have been reading the thread and half the posts on here are inaccurate b/c people are talking out of their arse without reading the contract that was provided in the article.
I see where someone said the the Board of Supervisors meeting minutes did not have anything about an extension since April 2008.
Assuming that is true Miles contract is up in 2012 and we only owe him 7.5 million if he is fired come December/January.

He will be back next year and he should. He runs a clean program, recruits very well and his record is still very respectable. SOME LSU fans need to get past their jealousy of Alabama.
Yes last week was embarrasing but as always, "winning cures all". He needs a QB in the worst way right now. Everyone loved the hat with J Russ and Flynn as QB.
