in mid 2004 (even following the AU and GA loses), i still had all of the faith in the world that the program as a whole was in great shape and was ascending. from a coaching standpoint, there were no signs or reason to believe LSU was spiralling downward. now, the obvious signs are there. forget all of the "Saban also lost the capital bowl" bullshite. look at the product on the field now. say what you want about the 2004 team, but they were 1 point and a hail mary away from being 11-1....and you are stupid to think Saban wouldn't have succeeded abundantly in 2005-2007.

Les Miles question.........a simple up or down answer
Apart from recruiting, has the level of the football program at LSU gone UP or DOWN since Miles 1st year?

what part of a 51-15 won-loss record don't you get? factor a responsible ryan perilloux into the equasion and you could understand how Miles' record could easily be 55-11 with a reasonable shot at another natcham. JMNSHO.

Over his first three years, I thought Miles did an exceptional job building on the foundation that Saban left behind. We've had a bit of a falloff over the past two years, but that can happen with any program and with any coach (see Stoops, Bob) if all the factors that make for an elite team don't fall into place. (And some of these are beyond a coach's control.) Right now, I'm of the opinion that the last two years were such an aberration and can be explained by the instability of the defense and QB position (in '08) and by a less-than-stellar O-line last year. I believe it will take another 2-3 years to make a definitive judgement on that, however. We'll see where the program is in 2011 or 2012.

I must really be in your head, Sammich. He didn't quote me, he quoted someone else who had an entirely different take.

I realize some of you think we are in the same or better shape today than when Les Miles took over, but you are in a tiny minority. At this moment in 2005, everybody in the country considered LSU at least a top 10 team, probably a top 5 team, and very likely a strong contender for the NC going into the then-upcoming season. NOBODY thinks that about us now going into the upcoming season, except for the few remaining Miles-sniffers. Maybe you are right and 99% of the people are wrong, but I doubt it.

As an old algebra teacher used to say, "Two doth not at pattern make, three doth a pattern make."

Point: 2010 is a big season to determine if we're trending up or down.

So, aside from 17 of the 22 positions on the field, we were in great shape the last two years. That's encouraging.

ANOTHER 2-3 years? So, Miles inherits a powerhouse, destroys it, and he gets FIVE frickING YEARS of mediocrity to see if he can build it back?

We'll see where the program is in 2011 or 2012.

So, two more poor seasons in 2010 and 2011, which would make four in a row, might not be enough to tell us what kind of coach Miles is?

Some of you Miles people are amazing. Three good years buys you FIVE shitty ones? God, I wish the mentality of mediocrity would die at LSU.

Be it good or bad, your opinion of Miles SHOULD be directly effected by all of the "excuses" that are made. RP and the O line and the offensive production all happened ON MILES WATCH and under his supervision, or lack there of!

SO thanks for all teh good and bad, but answer the question.

TODAY, is it up or down since Miles 1st day!? Make yourself answer instead of making all kinds of BS circumstances. If it is bad, it may not directly be Miles fault, but he is the responsible one for all good and bad reguardless.

No. You're just one of Robo-posters who posts a lot, sometimes 3 or 4 posts, without anyone replying. Long & empty headed paragraphs.

You should preface each of you posts with this:

"Nick Saban popped my National Championship Cherry, therefore every other LSU Football Coach now & in the future, Sucks!"

Why don't you spare the real LSU fans that can see just fine, and go join a "TUSKS 'R US" board or whatever?

Reading it as you "LSU FANS are Amazing." Les Miles had produced the Best 5 years of any LSU Football Coach in school history.

Want argue that FACT? I know a good wall that needs your attention. It's lonely.

if ifs and buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a merry Christmas......

and RP had character issues when we signed him. Not saying we shouldn't have signed him, we just should have had a back up plan....

In 116 years of college football LSU has won 10 games or more 10 times and Les accounted for three of those.

Now he's one win short of that @ 9-4 (or even two off at 8-5) and you schumucks say he is not living up to LSU 'standards'.

When will you realize that 10 wins now is just like 9 wins before we went to 12 games. It gives us another rent a win. Go back and see how many times LSU has won 9 games and then revise your statement.

Huh? Don't you understand that if the O-line isn't good, NOTHING works on offense? There are some things you can do to try to minimize the damage, but the bottom line is, without a good O-line, your offense is going to putter along on two cylinders. That's why Miles is (rightly) putting so much emphasis on the line this Spring. He understands that if that crew isn't better, the offense will continue to struggle.

Well, we did have a back-up plan...Jarrett Lee and ? (his name slips my mind...the kid from Harvard). And we have continued to sign QBs in every class since. The fact that we got Perrilloux in '05 was totally due to Miles. Saban didn't have another QB in the pipeline for that class, and he hadn't signed one the year before, either.
