runner from third doesn't run on contact with 1 out
That's why creating a force play at home by loading the bases makes sense here. With runners on 1st and 3rd, he's not forced to run on contact.

a squeeze play is not a given and a hard play to convert
This would've been a SAFETY squeeze. Runner on 3rd would've read the ball and decided whether or not to go home. As long as it wasn't bunted back to the pitcher, LSU could've at least had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 out with Pap due up.

Pap wasn't the guy walked
Yes I messed that part up but Smith could've done the same.
My point is that baseball is a percentage game. You're taking a risk with every decision you make. Regardless of 1st and 3rd or bases loaded with one out, a deep fly ball scores a run. But with the bases loaded there's a better chance of getting an out by creating a force at home. I'm sure PM would've done the same. I think the only situation where that call wouldn't have been made is if Deichmann was on deck. We could go on all day with whether or not it was the right call but it wasn't a terrible call like some on here believe.
