So how could he keep the same O-line coach going into next season? That is truly puzzling.

That is one of the reasons why this is the year that I decide if I like Miles or not as "the coach". Hopefully with the 2 new hires, things will turn...

I guess it kinda makes me feel better but now I just want some kind of results.

Me too, and I want MORE than just mere improvement. Everybody knows that the O-line was not particularly good this year, and that Jefferson, despite being a returning starter, was still relatively green.

That the offense was not absolutely stellar doesn't bother me. That the coaches were incompetent in doing the best job they could with the hand they were dealt does bother me--very much so. Because it's in times when things aren't going as planned that the abilities of coaches to improvise under sub-optimal conditions are revealed. Ever since the Tulane game from last year, the LSU offense has been a disaster.

Sure, they will be better next year, and might even win an SEC title, but I still won't feel good about the coaching staff, because I'll always have that uneasy feeling that they aren't maximizing potential.

I guess I may have overreacted with my feelings of betrayal upon learning that Crowton was actually staying, and Gonzales actually does give me a little bit of a hope that things will get better (as he attempts to fill in for Crowton's obvious deficiencies and coaching blind spots), but we won't know anything for sure until next fall. It's an uneasy feeling.

These past few articles Miles has been really kinda forward with whats wrong with the team, and acknowledging it's weaknesses.

I agree. Simply acknowledging the team's obvious weakness is an excellent start for Miles, and I believe it would go a long way with the fans. If he would just stop feeding us "we have the want to improve" and "we have the want to play Sheppard, and actually acknowledge that everything is not perfect, I would have fewer problems with Les.

Until this point, I was not sure Les actually recognized the problems with our teams during his tenure.

The running game is not his only problem. He and this coaching staff have shown no ability to develop a quarterback. Jefferson was no better at the end of this season than he was at the end of the Georgia Tech game last season. He got lucky that Matt Flynn was a student of the game. So what is next at QB Les?

Having a better offensive line that gives him time may help his confidence tremendously.

Hurst was impressive. They will definitely be a LOT bigger up front. It looks like the starters could average 315-330lbs.

Hit & TBH were too small for SEC play this year. I look for Moffitt to thicken T-Bob and I am excited Les doesn't have to play favorites at the RG position and that the OL is wide open for starters which usually translates to hard work for starting positions.

Amazing how many people here call MIles an idiot but cant see through the smoke screen he ALWAYS puts out. Miles knew we were weak at line that is exactly why he said what he said.

No, it's actually not. I said that they might even win an SEC title, and still disappoint me, and that's true. Consider the following:

(1) LSU will be likely be slight favorites against UNC and WVU, but could easily lose both games.

(2) LSU could win the West at 6-2, given that Bama is losing 9 defensive starters (if Kareem Jackson goes to the NFL), including 6 of 7 of the front 7 (with only freshman LB Nico Johnson returning--and perhaps Dont'a Hightower with his ACL rehab as well). Thus, LSU could conceivably beat Bama at home, and go into the SECCG against a weaker East opponent with an 8-4 record. The Tigers could win that game (new QB for UF), and then lose a bowl game, making for a 9-5 season.

(3) Chavis, despite being underrated by the LSU fanbase at the moment, could put together a spectacular defense next season. LSU might hold SEC opponents to about 16 ppg, for example, while only averaging 23 ppg on offense.

Now how would you feel in such a situation? LSU just went 9-5, having lost 14 games over the last 3 seasons. LSU just wasted another outstanding season by the defense with another crappy offensive performance, underutilizing the talented new O-line, along with Shepard, Randle, Toliver, Tolliver, D. Peterson, etc.

Sure, the offense was an improvement over 2009, and sure LSU has an SEC title in a fortuitous year where things happen to bounce LSU's way, but would you really be happy with the coaching staff at that point?

I agree that it's more probable that LSU does not win an SEC title next season. I'm just saying that they might, and that it wouldn't really be that big of a shock if they did. It seems like a lot less of a long shot than 2001 was, for example.

coach miles biggest problem with fan relations is he gives us nothing. his coachspeak, while humerrous at times, gives us nothing. it's like he won't admit to anything, whether it's major or minor. as a court witness, he would give lawyers and judges heartburn. what he needs to do is to COMMUNICATE with us. yes, our running game sucks and we need to block better, etc, etc. i am a miles supported and i completely tune him our now. while i understand he can't tell me everything, this cat and mouse game on every little detail just ain't any fun.

Another stupid azz post. This has been discussed here ad nauseum. T-bob is bigger than Helms was so that kills your argument. Hitt has been the same size starting for 3 straight years so that kills your argument. we outweighed all d lines so that kills your argument. our line averaged 300 pounds a person with all 5 together. Hitt regressed due to concussions. T-bob was weak in the lower body (due to knee injury) where lineman must get 65% of their strength if not more. technique and strength play a huge role. You think you can wheel some big fat frick who is slow and weak out there just because he weighs 350 and he will dominate in run and pass blocking? get a clue. You clearly know nothing about line play nor have you ever played it.
