Steele wanted to retire from Auburn for a number of reasons the biggest possibly being fully invested in the state retirement system...which is the one thing that Alabama has managed VERY well.
He also didn't want to change schools just before (relatively speaking) he retires. He still has his place on the beach in SC and that is his next stop.
Good investment by Auburn. Only way that hurts us economically in any form or fashion is if Gus craters this year and tptb decide to ante up and fire his arse. That would be a 20+ million buy out.

When Steele was at LSU, it was the worst defensive performance (by PPG allowed) since the Malveto Disaster.
