The mellophone section is always like the "Isle of the Misfit Toys."

I'm very proud to be a mello!

Always!! I loved the six years I was blessed to be a member of the Mellophone section in The Golden Band from Tigerland. Memories that I cherish more than words can even begin to express.
Thanks Mr. Wickes!!
BTW, check out the cover of the 1984 Tiger Band album.

16 mellos all 6 years I was in Tiger Band. We were a very close group and I had a blast with them. Ted, Jennifer, Mark, John, Walter and the Mu Phi's.
All the nicknames like Brother Charminia, Sister Vulgaria and Father Horatio. The Geaux Tigers cheer changed to Oh, Y'all!. Maxipadding a certain someones car.
Mellophone porno night at my place.
Very fun times.

As a former mello (95-99) I can agree that we were the cut up's of the band.

I beg to differ. When I was in the band from 92-94, i played tenor sax. There were only 8 of us and you could definitely hear over all of the brass when full band was playing. You've got to have balls to play like that and the tenor sax section did!!!!!!!

I was a mello as well and there is some truth to that. But, we were a really close group and had lots of fun. We probably had a lot more fun as freshmen and sophomores than the nameless/faceless freshmen and sophomore trumpet players. And it's just so damn easy to wail on a mellophone. Unlike the freshmen trumpet players, the freshmen mellophones were encouraged by the seniors to let loose. We had a blast.
RichmondTyger - Are you the one that put the mellophone picture on Facebook? We were in the same class. This is BL.

I didn't put the pic up on Facebook, but I know what you're talking about...TR

Someone mentioned ND band... I was in TGBFTL from 93-96 and we played the same "salsa/latin" crap that the band is still playing at half time these days. The 3 times I saw ND against LSU, there halftime was about ten thousand times better, more imaganitive and better executed. And I am not an ND fan at all.
TGBFTL rocks pregame and during the game, but halftime has alot to be desired. I barely watch now a days and I am a former member. I blame the Latin remix's on Moorehouse!

I was not in the band so you would know better than me about that, but ND in the Sugar bowl looked gay(althought there is nothing wrong with that).. someone said it looked good on TV..so i guess it is in the eye of the beholder.
But the guy from Texas was some kind of band expert and he is the one that said ND drumline was worse than a High school.. He said LSU was good. It was at a competition a few years ago.

Anyone know if these scholarships are going to be reduced b/c of budget cuts?
