Agree with most of what you're saying but I'd add better oline play would help tremendously also.
That wasn't the problem. In fact, we had the highest rated offensive line last year in the country.
The problem was the offense, which was Miles' weak and pathetic offense and the fact that Alabama new all the plays coming before the ball was snapped, so it was easy for them to stop us cold.
What we need is a new offense that employs creative formations to keep Alabama off balance and guessing, that spreads Bama's defense out, employs lots of creative misdirection plays, shovel passes, counter plays, jet sweeps, and quick hitting pass plays and bubble screens to keep Bama's defense off balance and that will force them to play us far more honestly.
There were a lot of teams that played Alabama last season, who had much better offensive showings than we did and that had far less offensive lines than we did, but then again they weren't strapped down with Miles's old weak and pathetic offense either.

Just wait until next year. I know we have all said this at one time or another, but next year our QB will be in place and will lead our Offense. The interim coach for the Offense did very well given the situation, but imagine time to actually get it right. Best WR right now DJ Chark, but 4 guys that will see playing time and will probably be an integral part of the WR group, Dee Anderson, Derrick Dillon, Steven Sullivan, and Drake Davis.
No particular order, just the WR's listed.
1) Right now DJ Chark is our best WR at 6'3" 190 lbs. He can do it all.
2) Sullivan will be our go to guy when we need 6-12 yards. He is a big target at 6'6" 235 lbs. He is strong, good hands, and a super tough match up.
3) Derrick Dillon will burn up field as he will be our speedster. At 5'11" 185 lbs., he is a great route runner, very fast, great hands, and very quick. He will make an excellent slot WR. But he also has the speed and quickness to a deep target just like DJ Chark and Dee Anderson.
4) Drake Davis is one guy I am not sure about his progress, but once again a big WR at 6'3" 220 lbs.
5) Now to the biggest surprise for next year. Dee Anderson is 6'5" 205 lbs. He has great hands, runs great routes, has a super vertical, has super speed, very quick, is strong and is a fierce competitor. I can see Anderson Sullivan and DJ Chark blocking on a WR screen to Derrick Dillon. I can also see Dee Anderson getting the WR screen.
He reminds me of Calvin Johnson(Megatron). It's a comparison, not a declaration. When we get in the red zone, I say lob it up like a basketball and watch him out jump, out height, out strength, and out play anyone.
6) Russell Gage of course has seen some time.
There are others that might shine, and of course there are the incoming Freshman.
Fact of the matter is the Interim Offensive Coordinator did very good with what little time he did. And what he did best was use like 7-9 different receivers. So, other Defenses wouldn't get used to just playing DJ Chark, Dupree, and Dural. All good players, but predictable after other teams watching on film, then defending them all game long. The mix of WR's kept the opposing Defenses off their game.

People want a Pro-style statue, but that doesn't get you of this conference
Pro-style QB's can beat bama, but either way are going to have to be worth a damn and the play calling needs to be unpredictable and aggressive. A really good pro-style QB would light up that weak Bama secondary without having to run north and south down the field.

I'd say there's good reason for optimism. However, we have not seen one ounce of Matt Canada yet. We have no choice but to be patient.

Canada will be huge for the offense moving forward. Who do you guys thinks starts at qb and what are your expectations for him in Canada's offense?

I trust Canada way more then I ever trusted Cam. Canada showed a willingness to adapt. Cameron got the benefit of the doubt because he had basically a NFL type offense. Once Mett graduated, I knew it was over.
