Say what you want about Chad Jones but dude had unbelievable range and ball skills. He made plays, he single handedly won the Miss St game last season. No matter what if you don't have a good pass rush you won't have a good secondary. IMO all of our DBs are good tacklers so run support shouldn't be an issue.

I think Jai will excel at the safety position. From CB to S is not a hard transition.

I think so too...but it's still a big change. At safety the play is always in front of you. Jai had a hard time in man-to-man knowing how to play the ball. I think he will be better at safety.

I don't know that it has to be an attack at all. For me, personally I think we'll be better due to several reasons, the most of which is that we will return our defensive coordinator for the 1st time in a few years, and the guys will have a better feel for Cooper(who I believe is an excellent coach as well). I think the maturity of so amny young players with these coaches is bound to lead to a better, more knowledgeable and faster secondary... guys that are fast play even faster when they know what they are doing

I never played football on a real team but he is probably right. When your a corner you worry about your player that you have to cover. When you are a safety you have to scan the field and fly all over the place. And you do have a safer chance of not getting beat because your way farther back and there is usualy all ready one man on the person they are throwing it to

You could have just said this
LSU secondary: better next year?

Would that be so hard? Or did you have to focus on one player?

lets not even consider run support, blitzing, zone assignments being different...

I say yes. Sadly I think Jai has better coverage skills

you've noticed this from him not covering anyone ever?

And the next play that Brandon Taylor makes will be his first.

exactly. that's why to say a transition will be flawless and easy for any of these guys is idiotic. There's different technique and whatever else you need to know..

Ya...but the guy (ninthward?) said it was an easy transition from CB to Safety. Do you think its easier to transition from CB to Safety or visa versa? In other words you are responding to Elleshoe because he called him a dumbass...but then you make his pt in your post.

Corners have the hardest job with run support IMO, if you get blocked there's a big play right there. We blitz, and zone assignments do not differ very much. Corner has hash to sideline in most coverages and safty has deep fourth if i'm not mistaken. I actually liked safety better when I played it. Oh and I am 15. And I'm not just some dumb kid poster posting shite on this forum, I know wtf I know.

CJ would have progressed along with these guys. I hear what you're saying but the OP was implying that losing CJ is the benefit not the progression of everyone else

I agree... fwiw, I think if Jones had stayed and concentrated soley on football we would most likely have the top secondary in all of college football
