If we're making the best teams in wouldn't they have a beef? Aren't they better than St. John's? If you want to change the system, might as well make all things even.

Do you idiots even research before posting?

Seton Hall won the Big East Tourney and received the automatic bid, not UCONN.

He was responding to my Big East Basketball comment, so before you start going around labeling people idiots you may want to read a little more carefully.

I'm not seeing the Merit.

Where is St. Johns merit to be picked over LSU? That is the entire point of this thread.

LSU had a higher OOC SOS than St. Johns so they played an even weaker schedule.

St John's got in over LSU because St. John's is in a big market. Plain and Simple...anyone who thinks St. John's got in over LSU because they are better or finished 2nd in the fricking Big East is an idiot

So you think a bunch of folks in New York are going to tune into college baseball for a game they aren't even hosting?

Hell no I don't, but this is the NCAA's thinking. The NCAA is trying to make the game popular. The NCAA chairman said this during the St. Johns/Seton Hall game. Its all about making a better game for everyone across the country, not just the south. This is why UCONN was hosting a regional last season.

LSU lost a bunch of games. Folks are upset because a committee with no defined selection method did not choose LSU. What is merited? LSU didn't win anything. LSU didn't go to a conference tournament. LSU had a RPI. Obviously RPI is not weighted as much as people think.

LSU has a lot more credentials than St. John's does.

there is no doubt spreading the game around plays into the NCAA's mind, none at all. hell, the only reason the super regionals were created was to break up the SEC's dominance in the mid-late 90's

it's just surprising to see the NCAA's most powerful program be the team they make an example of

It's a striking reversal from the committee's approach just two years ago, in Weiser's first year as the chairman. In 2009, the committee awarded at-large bids to eighth-place Baylor (10-16 in the Big 12) and ninth-place Oklahoma State (9-16), at the expense of teams such as Rhode Island, which ranked 57th in the RPI. This year, St. John's had a comparable resume—though it was just 1-6 against the top 50 in the RPI, compared with LSU's 11-17 mark against the top 50.

What a joke, after the screw job they gave us last year and giving us a SR against a Rice team in 09 that shouldve been a national seed. Along with the screw job they gave our basketball team the last time they made the tourney. I think the NCAA selection committees are out to get LSU.

The point is with an arbitrary selection method, you get this shite. You want a committee choosing teams...this happens. Don't be getting mad at members because they didn't select temas based on non-existant criteria.

it's not "non-existant criteria"

it's common sense

In your opinion, why did St. Johns get picked over LSU?

You're comparing apples to oranges.

The committee is looking at conference marks. St Johns won more games in their conference than LSU and played in the champ game of their conference.

They played much better ball within their conference than LSU did. That's it.

Yes, their conference SUCKS arse compared to the SEC, but that's what we get for playing in a tough conference. 7 teams in the tourney (tied with the ACC for the most, btw), but you MUST play very strong baseball IN YOUR CONFERENCE to get into the NCAA tourney. LSU (and OM for that matter) did not play well enough. That's it.

If you have a problem with St John's getting in and not LSU, then you have a problem with the number of bids given to lower conferences. That's a whole seperate issue. What you're saying is that the SEC should have had their teams picked first, then the ACC, then the next best conference, then the next, and so on until all 64 slots are filled. You have a problem with the way the tourney is filled. Right now, it's based on having representation from ALL conferences (just like basketball) instead of the ACTUAL best 64 teams.

What you want is for the committee to rank all the DI teams, and then take the top 64, regardless of conference. Which would cause more than a few conferences to be completely left out of the tourney, but the ACTUAL, REAL top 64 teams would be in.

LSU didn't deserve to be in the post season, period. No matter who else got in. This may have been the best thing for LSU as hopefully it will wake someone up, somewhere.

just looking solely at conference records doesn't show you who the best teams in the conference are

lsu should have gotten in before uga and msu
