For the “I won’t wear a mask crowd” I have a simple question:

If they put 100,000 (or 80,000) people in the stands without masks, what are the chances they will allow fans in the stands the next week?

Keep in mind what just happened when the college students went to the bars 2 weeks ago. Now multiply that times about 100.

As I said, regardless of any of the politics.... you are assuming that the very same people who made decisions in March will make completely different decisions in August/September.

This isn’t a question of whether or not you want it to happen. You can have all the passion in the world about it. The reality is that it’s not going to be your decision whether the stadium is open to fans in the fall.

Exactly. If you want to watch college football this year, you should not want a stadium full of unmasked fans. It’s a simple as that.

Another point I will add that hasn’t been discussed much is the player union angle. At some point, and it could be a result of consequences of covid, direct or indirect, the players are going to have a push to unionize for safety.

This is only true if you accept the notion that mass hysteria must necessarily drive policy just because. Why will no one address the issue of mandatory mask policies being pointless and unenforceable at these events? People will HAVE to take them off, often. The moment 100,000 people start touching the masks with their hands and taking them off, etc., it defeats the supposed purpose of wearing them to begin with.

It makes no sense to mandate them in a football stadium unless your only goal is making people feel better on the internet.

They already tried and were shut down. Collegiate athletes are not employees and cannot unionize under current law.

That is actually not quite fully true. I do sports law and i promise you this is something that both players and agents have been looking into very seriously and are waiting for the proper timing to play their cards right.

But, for the sake of the argument, paying players was also “shut down in the past.” Now, athetes at power 5 conferences receive stipends. One step further, athletes can now receive money for their likeness etc.

Rules and laws change all the time due to the environment. Regardless of your politics and beliefs re: masks, we are living in a turbulent time. Turbulent times brings about change.

I’ve very aware, and their eventual playing that card will result in nothing other than the end of the NCAA golden goose. Which will, wait for it, totally eliminate the ‘industry’ these players benefit from.

They will not play their cards right. They WILL overplay it. No one cares about amateur athletes unless they are affiliated with a university. There is no market for these players to even play, much less make money without the schools.

But they’ve had crowds of 80,000 “protesting” for weeks and no one seemed concerned about COVID

I don’t disagree with your statement but would add that the major amateur sports such as football
exist almost entirely for fans. The fans bring too much $$.

frickin moron, those mask don't work and if you think they do you probably think it doesn't spread at protest.

Let’s see. Just about every medical expert in the US, no make it just about every medical expert in the world, says that masks help slow the spread of Covid.

Random dude(s) on tiger rant says masks do not work.

Who to believe?

No one wants to wear masks. But forget about wearing a mask in tiger stadium. If people want any football this year they need to start wearing masks now, politics aside. If in the next few weeks covid infection rates keep going up, the chances of football this year go down. And vice versa.

Arguing masks don’t work defies common sense. The virus is spread mostly by coughing or breathing on someone. Wearing a mask lessens the chance you give someone the virus, and lessens the chance someone gives it to you. Is a mask absolute protection? Of course not. Does a mask slow the spread of covid? Of course it does. Are we really debating that on here?

Gonna be interesting when all the obese people start dropping like flies with face masks in 95 degree heat. Hope they sue the shite out of LSU.

Obesity is one of the main underlying issues. Maybe the obese people, like myself, will stay home and give their tickets to younger healthier people.
