The fact that you truly can't answer this question shows you don't know shite about college football, team chemistry, coaching and the importance of leadership at the QB position.
Yes, you need a good QB, or at least not a bad one. Alabama had McElroy. Brett Favre he's not. But they got the job done. The point is, there should never be a game when LSU is "supposed to lose". That's crap. We're "supposed" to be the team that OTHER teams are "supposed to lose" when they play.
quote:
Maybe you should go back and watch the other 58 minutes of the game. We had lots of opportunities to put that game away early.
After scoring to go up 17-9, Miles called for an on-sides kick. It was executed perfectly as Peterson had an easy catch past the required 10 yards and along the sidelines to give LSU the ball. He was dragging his left foot as he caught the ball and went out of bounds. His right toe was ruled on the sideline and OM was given the ball along with additional yards for kicking out of bounds. It looked like he made the catch while dragging his left foot in play before his right toe came down on the sideline but the booth ruled in OM's favor.
Then later in that drive we forced a turnover but it was overturned when the replay booth said the players knee was down. It looked like the ball had already started moving before his knee went down and it was called a fumble on the field but they overturned it without conclusive evidence. That was 2 booth calls that went against LSU which led to an OM touchdown and a 17-15 LSU lead. We could have easily had a 15 point lead going into halftime. Instead OM got every questionable booth call and it was a 2 point game.
None of which had anything to do with our having an inexperienced QB. Yes, we were lucky to have a chance to win at the end. Yes, we were outplayed in the second half. Yes, we got some bad breaks. But the fact is that, in spite of all that, we were in FG range with under a minute to go and trailing by 2, and we didn't even manage to get off a FG attempt because of shitty clock management and play calling. Jefferson's inexperience is no excuse for the loss to Ole Miss.

Ever heard the old adage "You can lead a horse to water....". Going with JJ in '09 was the right move.
Yes. And wasting '08 not teaching J. Lee was a bad move. fricking up the defense so the freshman QB had to make plays just to keep us in games because the defense couldn't stop anybody was a bad move.
Les Miles should not be excused for poor performance of the team when said performance is the direct result of his own screwups.
And I seriously hoped I'd never again see the day when LSU went into games accepting that it is "supposed to lose". That smacks of the 1970s when Mac was conceding the Alabama game on the way home from the Ole Miss game every year.

You do realize that Lee was the 3rd string QB going into '08, right? Do you honestly think they didn't try everything they could to improve Lee's play? Do you think they enjoyed watching him throw interceptions and pick 6's? Jesus, dude...i mean come on.

Chris is the James Lee Burke of Tigerdroppings... analogy/metaphor/de masta of figure of speech

I don't agree with ALL of the comments, but the majority have merit. It is a good article regardless of whether you agree or not. If you only see the good in articles you agree with then you are cheating yourself.
The people arguing the points of why we lost the OM game are proving the articles point for it.

I watched the o'l Piss LSU game rerun yesterday of last year. I think Les has already had his acid test. Worst coaching job in the last 4 minutes I have ever seen in a football game. Any Pop Warner coach would have done a better job! The chances LSU had in the first half they should have had a 21 point lead at the half

Maybe Tiger fans would rather a coach who misleads and uses recruits and players and refers to agents as "pimps," or one who lies to the media about job's he's considering, or demands that the design of his statue be reconsidered because he doesn't like the way his hair looks...One has to wonder why Miles doesn't have a statue being built at LSU in his likeness...maybe because he didn't lose to the University of Louisiana at Monroe? Or maybe it's just that most active coaches with dignity and class do not allow boosters to build statues of them? In two weeks we find out if Miles will again be loved and feared by the purple and gold masses. One thing's for sure…his acid test will be fun to watch.
Best statement written on the rant in a long while IMO

Miles is NOT an upstanding citizen. He has a long track record of lying. Ask Boone Pickens, Bradley Dale Peveto and the list goes on and on. Miles has been and is a mediocre coach; at best.

Taking time from his kiosk in Lower Alabama or from his all-night affairs at Flora-Bama to add more to his repotoire of vanity publishing. What a joke!

"Everything they could" is the key phrase here. I'm sure they tried, they just weren't very good at it.

No, they just didn't have a clue what to do about it.

No, he wasn't. He and Hatch went through spring practice as the top two QBs, while Perrilloux was suspended. Early in summer, he was officially kicked off the team. All through fall practice, Lee and Hatch were the two top QBs. They had basically the entire offseason without Perrilloux. It's not like he got hurt in the first game of the year or something, when it was too late to make adjustments.

Holy shite
You don't think that was happening in the '70s? You weren't watching very closely, then.

bad coaches don't average 10 wins a season, win division, conference and national championships, and consistently have top 10 recruiting classes.

Florida was "supposed to lose" to Alabama in the SECCG. I guess that means Florida accepts mediocrity.
He meant that Florida and Alabama were better teams in '09. Your agenda is pathetic.

or maybe JL just isn't a SEC QB

My bad...they had about 5 months to turn a freshman 3rd stringer into a starting QB in the SEC. should have been a cake walk

yea...im sure Mac was just conceding the bama game every year. That streak literally made him sick. Beating bama would've been like winning a NC to him.

apparently Chris took a break from sitting outside his booth at the Foley outlet mall handing out SEC magnets to bring us 2000 words and 3 minutes that we will never get back.
Thanks Chris.
I agree. These Chris articles are the biggest bunch of drivel I have ever seen in my life. Junior high schoolers could write a better article. I particularly hate his veiled anti Obama and Saban diatribe propped up as some kind of well thought out socially prophetic commentary.
