After yesterday's fiasco, I think you assume too much. In my opinion, Miles will never see a head coaching gig at a major I-A program after he is gone from LSU.
Quote of the season...painfully honest...

If Miles is fried where do we get the money to pay off his contract (15 million owed approximtley) and where do we get the money to bring in a big name coach?

show me in a Head Football Coaches contract that he must make an attempt to find a job (upon being terminated) or the school or team will not pay him what is owed to him....do you really believe this?

Theoretically LSU could argue that Miles has failed to mitigate his damages therefore LSU isn't liable for them.

Poor my arse. I have to take out a small loan every time I want to take my son to a game at TS. We can get whoever we want to get. This is not the LSU of the 80's and 90's....we can do much, much better than getting another dinardo or hallman...

So now you rantards are looking for an "up and coming" coach...someone cheaper. To get that, you get a very unproven coach and have the growing pains that go with that. That's not a solution I want to be part of.

Peyton calls his own plays genious and therefore represents more than Mile's does for his team.
Obviuosly all Miles does with those headphones is think of different answers to dance around tough questions.
Absolutely wonderful post.

good faith
this is called buy out.....that my friend says it all......he can interview and if the money is less then he can argue that it is in his best financial interest of him and his family to not take the job.....
example.....Memphis State offers him a job as HC and will pay him 500,000 a year. LSU's contract will pay him 2.5 or 3 million a year. Why is it his obligation to earn less money. In no shape form or fashion does it say he has to take a job so LSU is off the hook for what they owe him.......the words good faith are very undefined and can be argued in court for years to come....not good for LSU either way...

It's not, LSU pays the difference between his new contract and his old one, which in your example if he was supposed to make 3 mil here and got paid 500k by somebody else we would only owe him 2.5 mil.

great idea though...lets stiff Miles on his contract because we were dumb enough to give him a boatload of money...when we stiff him every other coach for years to come will say "Hey lets go coach at LSU where they refuse to pay on a contract they initiated!".........

You are exactly right ... it could be battled in court for years without a single dime being exchanged, thus the reason they would agree to settled buyout, probably in the 4 to 8 million range. Obviously, Miles would need the money more than LSU, so LSU would certainly have the better bargaining power. That said, Les Miles would find a decent job and make at least $1mil a year.
FWIW, DiNardo and Vandy's buyout case went on for years.

but what if he cannot get a job he wants or refuses to take less money from a school....it is not his obligation to help bail us out....thats the problem when you give big contracts...we fricked up and gave him big money...now if we want him gone we have to negotiate a buy out...its the only option, no one will hire him as HC after yesterday...at best maybe a line coach in the NFL...its all rather he wants to coach or get paid....

Thank you Sir...now my next question is where do we find 4-8 million and still have enough to hire a new good coach.......

Although I'm all for going a different direction soon (even though I personally like Les Miles), IMO it's pointless to discuss because I don't believe there is any chance whatsoever that Miles is not LSU's coach in 2010.
Any circumstances that would change that (i.e. RichRod resigning at Michigan, end of the world, etc), I'd certainly be all in favor of.
